Thanks for the post. Been eyeing the Ryzen chips to upgrade my home desktop for a while. Any recommendations on accompanying Motherboards? Or in the $100-200 range are they all generally similar?

Thanks

Good deal if you were going to buy the game too. Ryzen 3 will be out in the summer so the price should drop by then (with or without the game)

The 2600x have 30$ rebate when combined with a mobo on newegg.ca, it could be a better alternative if you need to buy both.

Link please, could not find the deal you mentioned.
I actually need mobo, CPU and RAM - bundle deals would be great.
Thank you in advance.

I have an older first gen ryzen 5 1400. Is this worth the upgrade? Nothing particularly wrong with the 1400, but feels like a pretty good deal with Division 2 thrown in.

If you don't need a new cpu now, wait until July when the new AMD tech drops. Should be some good deals on the 2600x then.

CoolDudeClan wrote: Correct me if I'm wrong but, the Asrock Pro4/2600X combo comes to $400 after tax , and that board alone can be had $90+tax. So essentially about $50 more for the combo with the X, which is around what it would cost to buy it separate.

Separate Ryzen 2600 $248 taxin + Asrock $101 = $349. So $51 extra for the X version if you bought the combo. I think you could even do it a little cheaper separate.

These are rough rounded numbers but I think its close either way
The combo is 340+tx and there is a 25$ MIR.
I swear to god prices changes everyday on newegg... I believe this was 20$ cheaper yesterday.

Would look at the MSI B450 tomahawk, pretty solid VRM to work with the AMD PB.

You’ll wait forever. My Phenom ii 955 has been my main machine since 2010 and it still fly win 10 on a 128GB SSD

I noticed that the i5 9400F is for $220 at Mike's.
Although the cpu is locked, it's still faster than the 2600/2600x for most games. Overclocking those AMD's may get you closer to the i5, but that would mean you'd be spending even more more on cooling and faster RAM.

So
i5-9400 > 2600/2600x for games
i5-9400 < 2600/2600x for multi thread productivity

Not a good deal if you just want the processor. Lowest was 199 on amazon and normally hovers around 219 to 229. So I’ll pass
