I find the Asus laptops the last few years flex when you press the space bar. I miss the old Asus Ultrabooks

Better screen, but worse CPU, worse GPU, and if I were guessing, I'd say a comparable or worse battery life. Tough to gauge the OLED display against more power hungry components.

they are VERY different machines. This is a mixed use laptop, with a killer screen. moderate size

g14 is an ultra powerful small-ish gaming machine

g14s are about twice the cost, and would yield a lot less battery. but have benefits. outside of the 2022 model, they have poopish screens. this has a killer screen

I presume they mean the model that's $999 at best buy right now.

here is a more detailed breakdown:

g14, better more efficient processor (CPU). great power, but also reasonable heat. Will have good iGPU so you can run without the dedicated graphics for longer battery

ram. same, although the g14 has one sodim slot so you could put a 16gb in there for 24gb total.

gefore 1650 is a fair bit more powerful than the MX450. although its also no powerhouse. It would be somewhat more powerful than the iGPU on 6000 series amd

the screen on the zenbook is WAAAY better than the g14. brighter, OLED, etc. literally no contest.

size: the g14 is about twice the size. its not exactly large, but not an ultrabook.

Takeaway: if you want an ultrabook for day to day use, with some very mild gaming, the zenbook is good. If you want to actually do some moderate gaming g14.

HOWEVER, i do not recommend this g14. the 1650 isnt really a capable GPU anymore, where AMD iGPUs are near it in power, and will likely surpass next gen.

Either get the zenbook, or get neither. IF you want a gaming machine get a g14 with at LEAST a 3060.

EDIT: also found this model with a 3050. bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/open-box-rog-zephyrus-g14-14-gaming-laptop-grey-amd-ryzen-7-5800hs-512gb-ssd-16gb-ram-rtx-3050/15753566

again, i dont recommend dropping a grand on a gaming machine with a 3050 right now. get a 3060 model

I'm also a bit outdated in computer specs... and now looking for a decent laptop between 700 and 900$ for a relative.
but whatever, is there a noticeable performance advantage of going for a 12th gen CPU, vs 11th gen ones ? I read the 12th gen often overheat ?

Huge difference in battery life. I would recommend taking a look at this, if you can stretch your budget $100, definitely worth it: amazon-ca-999-asus-vivobook-s-14x-oled- ... d-2579994/

Those that got these laptops, does your screen also have little dots when looking at it really close? it seems they're digitizer dots thats not perfectly aligned with the screen layer. Most says it is how it is and not a defect, but if other screens dont have the little dots then it could be a defect.

You mean ... Intel's 11th gen. has better battery life than 12th ? or the inverse ?

maybe you also meant that AMD Ryzen 7 is much better in that regard ?
but if laptop is most of the time plugged... (like mine) so, battery autonomy is secondary... performance wise, I can compare them in CPU benchmark site, but other that that, reliability and issue because of heating, are those Intel 12th gen cpu really that bad ?

(In my readings, I see read many "red flags" about 12th Gens,... no pun intended ;) )

I personally never been an AMD fan (no pun intended here again lol), but that sourced long time ago...
