AMD is about to announce the refresh, so I'd hold on just a little bit longer.

Hold on for what? Stocks that no one, except for scalpers, will get their hands on? Imo, if you need now, this would be a good time. The waiting game never ends and omicron is possibly sending us all to another lock down, which would mean more supply issues.

Buy from Amazon and send it back when the price drops.

The 5600x and 5800x don't have an APU (iGPU) , so you need to have a discrete GPU to complete your system build. If anyone is still waiting for a GPU, may be they can get the 5600g version (with integrated Radeon Vega 7; will use max 2GB of your shared RAM memory).

Of course there will be some bottlenecks for 4k users when you upgrade to a high end gpu, but you would still be ok i believe.

Hold on for 5000-series price drops on old stock as people go crazy over the latest and greatest... Not saying you need to buy the new SKUs.

Dang I have a brand new sealed one that I got for a built that's not happening anymore. LMK if anyone from the Montreal area wants it at cost, which was 408$ + tax!

Not the same. There isn't as much of a shortage on CPUs as GPUs. Also once Intel B660/H610/H670 boards hit next month, Intel's 12th gen offerings would be much more attractive than any current AMD options available now.. especially at the price they are peddling them.

5000 series CPU shortage only lasted a few months after launch when people rushed to buy the latest and the greatest, unlike GPUs.

AMD 5000 series are getting obsolete now, best to aim for a 12th gen Intel or the new AMD Ryzen series.

If you're building a new rig, yeah, wait.
For those upgrading, I wouldn't wait.

The fact that the CPU alone is worth this much makes me feel much better about the ThinkPad T14 5850 deal I got last week. Everyone complaining about the screen quality but it's not even that bad unless you plan on gaming. AMD killing it these last few years performance vs $
