What do you think are the chances of a substantial discount on this 3900x when Zen 3 is announced?

1800X dropped price significantly after 2700x was announced. And same with 2800x when 3xxx came out. I don't see why this will be different this time.

Ok, I'll be patient lol. I read that some GPUs (2080Ti I believe) have already been discounted ik Phillipines by 50% and Malaysia by 55%.

I'm currently waiting for the announcement of Zen 3 plus Black Friday. Wish there's gonna be a deal for 3900X.

We appear to be on the cusp of a similar generational leap of GPUs, after sales -- rightly, I might add -- of the 20XX generation of Nvidia were disappointing. We haven't even seen their plans for a 3060/50 discount line yet.

So if you're building a PC and have some patience, Jan/Feb is probably the ideal time to make some shopping commitments. Right now memory/SSD/CPUs are competitively priced, but the video card market is getting a long over due shakeup with the threat of new consoles and sagging Nvidia sales.

2080ti is sold abt $2500 before tax, 50%off will be around $1700, considering 3070 is abt 500usd and same performance as 2080ti, 50% is still a bad deal....

If it goes to abt $500 cad I would consider it a deal, otherwise 3070 would be the right choice, imo

The gammaxx 400S only has a 3 pin fan connector beware. I would spent 5 dollars more for the V2, which has a better stock fan.

If you’re going to buy at 3900x for gaming then I would spend the extra on Zen 3. There is a new CCX design, increased IPC (15% approx).

I would look at a 10 core Zen 3 when they come out. Apparently this will be the model to get.

How quickly do you need the CPU?

If you're willing to wait, November deals should be better.
Also, AMD is having a Zen 3 presentation on October 8. It stands to reason that a price drop on the older CPU's will follow.
Then again, everytime Intel presents something new AMD will follow up with better pricing.

I'm actually surprised that CC dropped $100 on a CPU. Usually their deals are only very good around November and Boxing week, when manufacturers and distributors are willing to discount products further.

I know right? Over time I suspect the 1060s will looked at as one of the best during its time period. I see the 3k series potential to live up to that as well.

I don't play video games, the computer will be solely for video editing. I was between 3700x and 3900x but the 4 extra cores are almost too tempting to pass. I didn't know there will be a 10 core Zen 3 released, so this is interesting to me.

So it's kind of a "trade-off" type of scenario. I want to build the PC as soon as possible so I can start working on video editing and getting content out on YouTube. I can wait until October and maybe even until BF, if the savings merit it. At this point, if I would save an extra $50-100 on the R9 3900x during BF, I wouldn't mind paying that extra amount to have the computer sooner. If the savings would be > $100, then I am willing to wait.

I have ordered:
- Case (NZXT H510) - All time low price of $89.99
- RAM 2x16GB 3600Mhz CL16 - All time low price of $166.99 (How much lower can this go on BF? All other comparable RAMs are like $100 more)
- I plan on pre ordering an RTX 3080

Other than the CPU, I would only need to get the coolers, PSU, peripherals and motherboard. Still trying to decide if I should shop around for deals during the next couple of months (since I had luck finding good deal on case and ram), or if I should just wait for BF to buy it all.

My question is; can we expect the CPU discounted pricing to reflect upon the Zen 3 presentation in Oct., in November during BF, OR when Zen 3 is actually released for sale?
