I'm currently using my old and trustful i5 4570 + 7yo Asus mb.
I'm feeling like it's time for an upgrade.
Should I get this over a Ryzen?
I'm not a gamer. I use my computer mainly to run my Linux dist (+ VMs) and for web development.

ty guys.

I'd hold off.

DDR5 availability is slated for 2020ish(probably 2021).
Whatever you upgrade to likely is going to be walled for future progression.

If you're Okay with that, then I'd go straight to a 3600. but personally I'd wait it out- maybe grab a new SSD and monitor, which can be moved to a new build.

I dont think you'd notice much of a difference in web dev tbh.

If you have an immediate need for it and dont care about future upgrade and go for it. It’s so cheap anyway
I ordered the 10400 before find out about this. As I dont want to go through the hassle to cancel and reorder with CC I’m keeping the 10400. But if I could go back in time I’d go with the 9400

Considering the current (lack of) availability and inflated pricing of even low grade AMD CPUs, this is actually pretty decent deal if you need a machine now.
Bundled with $100 B365 MB, it is cheap enough to set aside any concerns about future upgrades.
These days it looks that AMD and Intel have switched places on the "value to money" segment.

I suggest you to go with amd. All my pc are Intel but now they are selling overpriced and underforming chips.

No reason to go with intel.

What would I need to build this PC?

Case, power supply, ram, hard drive?

Does it have integrated video?

How much will it cost in total?

Am I missing something here?
Can this CPU be OC'ed to surpass it's rated specs?

Thanks,
Good luck finding it now in stock on retail channels in anything close to MSRP.
Also, even cheapo MB for this will be more expensive.
As a AMD fan myself, I can objectively tell that in current state of things Intel deal is just better in terms of value.

It’s good to have an AMD fan who still considers realities
There are a bunch of AMD fanatics who just bash all things related to Intel on forums. I think if all Intel cpu are 50% off they’d still bash the deal
