If my desktop is currently running 2 x 8GB sticks would I need an additional 2 x 8GB sticks, or can I run this single 16GB stick with what I currently have?

I just bought some $10 DDR3 sticks (not 16 GB'ers) off eBay for my Optiplex 7020 lol...
Cleared 8 passes with MemTest86+, should be legit.

you can run the single 16gb with your 2x8gb should not be a problem but you may not get the max speed. you can do some tweaking in the bios to get them to run the fastest but its not necessary for it to work as 32gb

I'm tempted to buy now to save it for when I have a DDR5 board. LMAO It'll probably be $2k for 16gb when I'm going to need it.

Been waiting for the gigabyte Aorus Master coming in stock. Checked out this post thinking I would grab some ram while waiting for them coming back in stock. They were OOS everywhere.
Well I popped to google, put in mobo name and ram model to check compatibility then Canadacomputers popped up & the text shows both the mobo and ram in the same paragraph so clickity click and boom, back in stock. Scrolled down the pg a little and this ram was part of a bundle. Added the bundle then added a 2nd stick to the bundle expecting it to be the price posted here. Well to my surprise, look below

GIGABYTE Z790 AORUS MASTER LGA 1700 Intel Z790 EATX Motherboard with DDR5, 5* M.2, PCIe 5.0, USB 3.2 Gen2X2 Type-C, Intel WiFi 6E, Marvell AQtion 10GbE LAN, Q-Flash Plus, EZ-Latch Plus
1
$684.99
$684.99
Crucial 16GB (1x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz CL40 1.1V Desktop Memory Kit (CT16G48C40U5)
2
$29.99
$59.98
Subtotal:$744.97
Shipping:$0.00
EHF:$0.00
Tax:$96.85
Grand Total:$841.82

So if anybody is wanting a board to go with it, check out the bundles to see if it is with it to save even more.
$29.99 per 16gb DDR5 was a steal in my situation.

The z790 boards were too expensive when the i9-13900k first came out and got the Aorus master z690 and didn't need the z790... amazing mb for $489 back before Christmas.

The z790 is still expensive. I currently use a 12900k with a z690 gaming x ddr4 which was always going to be changed when the z790s arrived. Realistically the z790 Master should be $500 IMO

Still running my 2010 Dell Optiplex 990 with 4 x 4 GB sticks RAM myself as my office computer. Runs pretty good with the i7 2600 quad core processor.

SSD, power supply and video card upgrades and changed motherboard CMOS batteries a few times. Runs great. Moral of the story ...do not need newest best all the time.

I haven't been keeping up with DDR5 prices, but at this price you can easily have 16x4 = 64GB of DDR5 for $200. In my mind this is amazing, not quit DDR4 prices where I got 128GB for $200 a while back

I want to upgrade but even my newish 1000w psu would need an upgrade. My 11700k and asus z590e probably would be very difficult to sell.
I had an alienware m18 a few years ago that cold booted in 10 seconds and my new tower at 5ghz with ddr4 and gen 4 ssd won't even match it. What a waste of money to upgrade.
