Nice, was thinking about the Fractal R cases as the Wife wants another computer. It's pretty much the only case I want as I still want a 5.25" CD/DVD bay since I'm soo old.

Great price if you can find at a location near you... inventory seems pretty low

For anyone looking for a spec sheet comparing the different fractal define cases, here it is. I was looking at the R6... Looks like the only difference is that the R5 is plastic, R6 is aluminum. Is the price difference worth it?

I had the R4. Functionally it’s good no complaints but it is big for a mid tower and I find the design is so boring

Yeah the R5 has a plastic front face. The rest is steel. I don't think the $65 difference is worth it but that is just my opinion.

if you are using cds/dvds rarely you could also opt for an external drive. they don't cost a lot and your pc could have either more space for other stuff or be a lot shorter.

why would anyone buy this case, other then its simple looks. Looks a bit dated IMO, but that is just me.

R5 still costs that much? I bought one in 2015 and it cost $99.

Build quality? Sound deadening material? Need a lot of HDD bays? Maybe they're FD fans?
The R6 and R7 raised the bar as to ease of building and all, but the R5 is still a good case if it fits your intended use case (roomy, quiet)

I'd say it's overkill for most though.

Yeah I bought one 4 years ago for under $100 from Canada Computers. I've been looking at Fractal Design Case prices in this size category and I haven't seen them drop much lower than this recently (past 6-12 months). All R6s are OOS or > 200 and the R7 is > 215.

Bought the Windowed variant on Black Friday, 2016 for $109.99 + taxes when NCIX was still around!

I guess CC is the only game in town now so they can charge whatever they feel like and people will still buy them :(

A silent PC is never overkill.
