[Canada Computers] HP EX920 / EX950 NVMe SSD 1TB - $109 / $139 (Clearance) - Updated

For anyone who missed the $139 SN750 deal a while back, Canada Computers has a few HP EX920 and EX950 SSDs on clearance both for $139.

People seem to have forgotten about them but these are high end Gen 3 SSDs that perform similarly to the WD SN750 (faster 4K random read/write, lower power efficiency).

Imo these are a better buy than any PCIe Gen 4 drives right now. You get nearly double the capacity and blazingly fast speed. I personally don't believe in futureproofing when it comes to consumer electronics so I wouldn't spend the extra money on the Gen 4 drives which have no practical advantages. And when software eventually catches up with Gen 4 hopefully the hardware will be much cheaper (as long as Chia doesn't take off). Keep in mind $139 for 1TB is in SATA territory.

UPDATE:
The EX920 1TB is now $109, down from the original $139

Seems to be a good deal. But not sure if I should buy because I rarely use my desktop now (last time boot up was nearly 2-3 months ago)

Sadly my macbook uses pripoeity connector. It is small but I can manage it. Don't have or plan to get another laptop since the macbook suits my need.

If you are getting this for a laptop, just be careful that this is a double-sided drive. It might not fit if your laptop has a lower profile connector that mounts the drive flush with the motherboard and requires a single-sided drive. Had to return one a while back because of this.

Great find OP!

Just note that these two double sided drives, so it won't fit some laptops without bending the PCB.

been doing this with with my 2015 since I bought it with the Sintech adapter no issues.

heck I even got the reverse adapter to put the apple 512gb into a PC's m.2 slot of mine so it would go to use rather than sit on a shelf in my parts closet.

sidenote prior to my 2015mbp my old 2012 rmbp was using the Sintech MSATA adapter as well.
not trying to shill for Sintech but for the better part of a decade ive used 3 of their adapters and both Macs using them had no issues, heck im typing on my 2015 w/ a 2tb Samsung EVO in it as we speak.

I've used $3 no-name adapters from eBay too and they work as well as the original Sintech's that I ordered directly from the Sintech site. I've always used the short adapters rather than the long adapters.

Thanks! I was waiting for a good deal on 1TB NVMe to use with this external enclosure from Sabrent. For $30 plus $139 I have a very capable portable flash drive. This adapter is great for swapping out SATA or NVMe m.2. Put a bootloader like Ventoy and I can boot all sorts of OS and utilities (Sergei Strelec anyone?), Windows isos with plenty to spare for storage. Way faster than USB flash drives. I realize this will limit my speed to USB3.1 (1Gbps) but eventually faster adapters will come down in price and more PC will have Thunderbolt 3/4 or USB4.

These are really good performing SSD's. Had to RMA my first one, I bought it from Newegg.ca but for the RMA HP had me send it to Canada Computers "HP-SSD-Serv. Dept.". Turn around was slow but it was an easy process. Replacement has been good.
