[Canada Computers] Logitech K400 Plus Wireless Keyboard with Integrated Touchpad ($29.99 + Free Shipping)

If you're in the market for an excellent HTPC keyboard, I highly recommend the K400. It has an integrated touchpad so you don't even need a mouse or worry about losing your mouse between the seat cushions. If you're not a touchpad person, you don't have to use the touchpad and will need to have a separate mouse plugged in or connected.

This keyboard is very compact and has all the basic functionality you'll need for keyboard and mouse across the room. I use this also for tech support where I don't have to touch their keyboard and mouse when I bring my own. Completely plug and play, no separate drivers or software required and will work on most platforms that support USB-A.

You'll also need 2 AA-batteries, which should already be included in the box.

The main downsides of this keyboard are:

  • No backlit keys to keep the cost down and long battery life, so you'll have to keep a light handy if you're using this in the dark.
  • Touchpad is not MacBook smooth or accurate and may not be as responsive, but it will work for most tasks.
  • Most keys are in their regular place, but because of the compact size, you'll need to look at the keyboard to trigger the appropriate function other than touch typing.
  • At this price and compact size, it's a membrane keyboard, not mechanical.
  • It only has support for USB-A dongle. However, it is Unifying, so you can pair this with your existing Unifying receiver if you have one plugged in already. They were thoughtful enough to include a spot for you to insert your dongle within the battery compartment for easy storage.

Due to inflation, there's no way to get this keyboard anymore at $20-$26 on sale. This is as good as it gets even on BF. So if you're in the market, I would suggest jumping on this deal. And free shipping sweetens the deal even more.

Edit: Added price in title of post as requested.

Edit 2: Corrected for the USB receiver also supports Unifying system/dongles and added "PLUS" name in the title since there was also the OG K400 that's no longer widely available.

Why settle for full retail price when you can wait and get it at a lower price for better value (even better if there's a bundled freebies deal)? 😉

Is this something that will work with my firestick so I can navigate my IPTV search options because the remote doesn't.

No, not that I can see... Unless the firestick also has a free USB-A port you can plug this into or your TV supports USB-A keyboards and mice. This keyboard uses a USB-A receiver that you have to plug into the device you want to interact with. There's no Bluetooth or multi-pairing with a Logitech Unifying receiver either.

Hope this helps.

Maybe hooking up the Firestick to a USB Hub?

But at that point, you might as well just get a bluetooth keyboard.

I got this 'used' on amazon warehouse for $18 couple of weeks ago and it's pretty much brand new. I love it with my HTPC.

We've had one for something like a decade. I really dislike it but nothing we have beats it for our HTPC: small, light, and integrated.
Anything smaller doesn't work for touch-typers.
The keys "bind" to some extent.
The touchpad is not consistent.

There is a chance ours is a lemon.

I almost came when I saw the title, but cried a little when I saw it was the K400 PLUS.

The original K400 was amazing. The Plus is idiotic. Should be K400 Minus.
You have to install some MASSIVELY bloated drivers to use the F keys. They default to media keys.

I'm running out of the original K400 and was hoping this was old stock or something.

I tried liking the K400 Plus but I just can't.

I'm actually using the original K400 to type this post right now. Still have a few more in storage but I'm always on the hunt for more.

Are you sure? Website says Unifying but since it needs drivers you may be right. I can't remember where I put my Plus so I can't even check myself.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Oh my bad. Confused Face Sorry, I didn't realize there was an original K400. I've always known this to be the K400, but forgot about the Plus at the end there. I also didn't realize they did update it since I got the K400 Plus. Mine was a dedicated dongle and not the Unifying dongle. Then I stand corrected. This is the new Unifying version.

It looks like they've made minor updates and improvements to the keyboard since I got mine several years ago and one of them is the Unifying receiver. Those things are tiny and will get lost very quickly in the shuffle if it's not permanently connected to a device.

This is a media keyboard first, not a computer keyboard. Thus, it's natural it would default to the function keys and not the F-keys like a regular computer keyboard. A regular home user using this keyboard with this HTPC would have a very rare use case for F-keys. You'll have to hold own the "Fn" key to trigger the F-keys. Can't win it all.

Thanks for the correction and sharp eyes.

K400 was also a media keyboard as well and had the function keys primary.
Granted my use case (and user level) have many more reasons to use function keys over media keys.
What drives me nuts is the massive driver bloat required to change it back. If there was a way to set it permanently without the drivers I'd be much less unhappy.

That's why I plan on giving this away to a friend. My "winning" in this case is hunting down old K400.
They were the best keyboards and I'm hoarding them until I can't find them any more then experimenting with different brands.
