Is 690 a good price for the 920+? It’s 720 on Canada Computers 793 on amazon ? Do I have the numbers correct?

Recently got the 920+ during the deal from b&h US store.
That price is still lower than this after conversion, but this price is definitely not bad.

The 420+ seems to be much more heavily discounted here and lower than anything before as per CCC. Just bought one for my office.

I'm actually very surprised this thread isn't getting more likes... Esp with the recent Google Photos news

It's hard to beat the price error on Amazon a couple of weeks ago where people got the ds1520+ for $699.

I still don't know why people buy these...
A used dell optiplex cost 1/3rd the price, yet has 500% more performance..
Yes, yes space.... etc.. etc...

Because of the software and hardware form factor. Unfortunately there aren't any cases that fit 4 hard drives with external access and are the size of a Synology NAS unit and have good cooling.

Those U-Nas cases.. but I can't comment on the quality..
silverstone makes nice cases too, they are also expensive... the CS280B is sexy <- but I don't want to think about it filling it with 2.5" Sata drives $$$$$
Though honestly... 99% of users do not need "external access"
Yes, it's 100% easier.., but for the once every 3,5,7 or 10 years you need to do something...
it really isn't a big deal

But that's exactly it ... people buy Synology units because it's easy and that's what they want. It's like asking why do people buy iPhones when you can do more on Android.

I'm assuming he means that at a certain age you just want things to work, quickly and easily. Building your own NAS is like the 1000th thing on your list of things you want to do.
