how would this connect to a TP link AC1750 router? does it need a cable ? I've got one of those plug in wall wifi extensions which cuts the wifi speed in half. Does this slow down wifi too?

This is an access point. It’s designed to take a single ethernet input and give wifi output. Most standalone APs (this included) are PoE, meaning both the internet and power are carried over the single cable. You do need a PoE compatible switch/router or you can buy a separate PoE injector.

This won’t slow down the wifi any more than connecting directly to the router.

Pretty sure this includes a POE injector, at least my EAP245 did.
