can i just use this as a standalone backup drive.. no raid or anything..?

you can, but Red drives are louder and slower than (most) standard HDD's.

with that said i have a red plus in my PC under my desk as a backup/media drive (connected to plex). I don't actually notice much of a noise increase but it is a semi common complaint.

the red also isnt as loud as the red plus.

your probably better off getting the blue

theres also like a $50 difference between the red and blue.. is the red less louder than a 4 month old baby and a 140lb cane corso combined?
