Are Canadian engineers willing to work for minimum wage?

I'm willing to bet yes. Through mass immigration white collar jobs will have their wages depressed to the point that they are just minimum wage jobs that are less steneous than blue collar labour. Canadians already accept 1/2 the wages Americans so anything is possible.

You’re the guy who couldn’t make it in Canada and had to go the US right?

I view it more like I decided to get some self respect rather than work for peanuts in a country fully committed to depressing wages.

To discuss Canada's awful wages and see if skilled individuals are willing to work for minimum wage. After all Canadians clearly aren't motivated by money. Wages are more depressed every year and I see a future where woke Canadian engineers work for $15 CAD per hour and thank their corporate masters for it.

Doesn’t sound like you want to have a discussion, otherwise that not how you would’ve opened up the topic. Sounds like you just want to rant, and maybe feel good about your situation.

Not only minimum wage.

Recent graduates are also willing to work for free or volunteer to gain valuable work experience.

I always find it interesting to see people on these thread saying it is hard to find a good paying job as an engineer. In my family my dad, sister and brother are engineers and I was technically the failure for not being an engineer. The mentality in the household was that you cant get a good paying job if you are not an engineer. They graduated in the last 6 years (except my dad) and none of them has ever worked for anything near minimum wage. Their salary has technically always been higher than mine even now when I make over $140,000 a year (all in) they still make more. They also all have different type of engineering degrees, so I am curious regarding why it is so hard to get a good paying job as an engineer.

yea straight up bizarre thread. OP you have a chip on your shoulder and some growing up to do. I do have some strong opinions about how underpaid engineers are relative to other professions. But this thread has been created just to massage your own ego rather than any intelligent discussion.

I agree that an interesting discussion could have been had here. This even led me to research the average engineer salary in canada. I always felt engineers to be overpaid however I am not a reliable source given minimal experience with family members and doing a Co-Op at a company consisting majorly of engineers. That is mainly why OP's comment came as a shocker ( I wouldn't mind it if it was true it is just far from what I have seen haha). Anyhow as everyone pointed out, I guess he his just bitter about being paid minimum wage while he was in Canada as an engineer, I know I would be.

IIRC he is a software engineer who felt that 200k CAD was an insult to his intellect when he could be in silicon valley earning 200k USD. I call this the illusion of grandeur syndrome where an average individual starts earning an high average salary early in their career and starts thinking they are some irreplaceable brain surgeon. And believe me, I graduated engineering during the last oil boom, had an offer in my hands before my last exam was written for 6 figures. Within my first year, I was getting flown to work every week, all expenses paid for hotels and meals and a living allowance on top of that rivaling the average Canadian salary on its own.

This is a very foolish and short sighted view. Tech has been in a bubble for over a decade, and the reason you're getting such a huge salary is the market conditions. The heavy inflow of investment capital into these tech companies allowing them to trade at astronomical valuations and pay these kinds of wages. The problem is you have confused this dynamic with your own talent. When the investment money leaves, so will the high salaries and the perks and the jobs. Make money while the going is good, but don't fall under the illusion that you are irreplaceable by someone with more experience and more talent willing to work for less.

Perfectly stated.
