Best laugh I had in a long time.
Can’t live with them, can’t live without them - a real love/hate relationship I have with them.

I have a great example that illustrates the first point in the article that their first problem to solve is recognizing that we’re customers. Have you ever tried to leave a Canadian Tire without buying something? Especially when it’s busy? You have to go through the checkout area, and the only thing in the store that’s narrower than the aisles are the checkout lanes. You have to try to squeeze by people in line with purchases to pay for. Everybody thinks you’re ignorantly invading their space, or trying to butt in line ahead of them, or are trying to walk out without paying!

It’s annoying, embarrassing, and humiliating to be treated like cattle in a corral all because they’re more interested in using loss prevention exit control methods and treating us like thieves than they are interested in treating us with dignity as customers.

Walmart has the stuff I need much cheaper. I can get full synthetic oil for $20. I got oil filter wrench, 4 sizes $13 (CT one size started at $16 up to $31 for the clamps). Found myself wheel covers at WM. Cheaper windshield fluid. etc etc.

CT is overprices most of the time and you must wait for their 75% sale to bring the prices in line with competition.

No need to read that. My experience trumps anything in that article. Hate the place.

How can CT be revitalized so it can rival WM, HomeDepot, Lowe's?

Why I try to buy from CT as little as possible

Return policy sucks

Hardly ever any sales. No, an item "80% off" every 3 months isn't a sale. Nothing gets your attention on the flyer.

Price sucks compared to Wal Mart or Home Depot or Princess Auto most of the time

Car service dept sucks.

They can start by overhauling store management practices and hire dedicated floor employees instead of part-timers who don’t give a damn.

I agree. What would happen if there was a fire or other threat that required evacuation?

Everyone would get out safely. There's lots of room to evacuate. No need to exaggerate

Interesting the article is in "entertainment" section instead of "business" section.

Is this article just for fun?

The website is atrocious & the websites for their other properties like Mark's are also bad. Hopefully they put some money into IT.

Cannot take a reusable bag in that store without being frisked like a criminal.

Canadian Tire's business model is the same as Tim Hortons': Get customers to accept low quality for high prices by wrapping yourself in the flag. Unfortunately it's a business model that seems to work and be profitable in Canada.

This is true. Close to all of CT products are not even made by Canadians. Items state imported by CTC corporation, which means they were made overseas.

Yes, usually ~10 cents cheaper / litre. And CT premium gas contains 0 ethanol.
