[Canadian Tire] Ecobee Switch: Clearance price $34.93 - $64.93 YMMV

This isn't as hot as the 20$ price tag last year from Rona during the clearance sales they were doing, but I noticed that certain Canadian Tire locations have the Ecobee Switch on clearance at prices ranging from $34.93 (Joliette, QC w/10) to $64.93.

Remember that you can order for delivery to your house for $4.99.

I have 3 of these, they work ok. Last year I wanted to burn them until they did a Firmware upgrade.

The alexa speaker cannot be put in a group for music (was my hope)

Lately after a power outage I need to reboot the switch tongrt alexa functions back.

Im using them as I didn’t want an extra echo taking up space.

I heard that this still doesn’t work as a temperature sensor.
Mine show temp in homeassistant, sometimes it’s quite off though; Usually after a reset or power outage .

Good to know. There are Reddit threads saying that Ecobee cancelled the temperature sensor functionality of the Switch+. None of Ecobee’s marketing materials mention this functionality anymore. It sounds like they ran into technical issues and couldn’t follow through on their original promise. Too bad, it sounded great conceptually.

Those with this switch (sorry I can't find this info on any reviews or product info sites). Is there a physical lights on/off toggle on the switch itself? For a quick on/off rather than relying on voice.

Yes there is a push button to toggle light on / off without voice.

They also have a motion sensor in the switch.

These work great with the alarm system from Ecobee. Loud siren emits.

I have one of these I got a while back from when they were on sale at Amazon. They are nicely designed hardware wise and great as a motion sensor switch but terrible for the smart stuff. First, I bought these to use with my ecobee thermostat but they never released that feature. then the Alexa integration is terrible. No support for Spotify, can't be assigned to a room group and worse of the mic is 50/50 when hearing they wake word or command.

I would get them for $30 but no more than that

I have a Ecobee 3 Lite. I will get one if it is cheap enough just to get the siren. I also need the humidifier control. I may replace my Ecobee 3 Lite the latest Ecobee. They gave us free window and door sensors and hoping to get us to subscribe the home security monitoring service. It was a good test. But the early adaptors cannot make use of it without spending money with upgrade.
Have too many phones... This is how I limit my monthly phone payment.

Fido $5 4GB plan with a free tablet, $0 FPL home phone.

The switch is exposing 5 accessories to HomeKit. One of them is temperature. I don’t have an ecobee thermostat to see whether a thermostat is using that reading or not, and sounds like this is the removed feature.

Originally this was touted as an extra room sensor like the standalone ones you get forthe ecobee thermostat but apparently the feature was buggy and was never officially supported. They actually removed the reference to it on the product page but if you emailed ecobee, you could get the beta firmware with that functionality. I don't know if this is still available but don't buy one of these things if you expect to use it as a temperature sensor.

Ecobee cancelled its original plan to enable room sensor on this switch. I received a free standalone sensor from ecobee for compensation.

Litterly bought it for spotify/music to use with ceiling speakers vs using echo devices (trying to reduce clutter).
Will there be future support/fix for it or does the actual unit lack capabilities?

I'm not sure. I've had mine for two years but so far there has been no update. It can play music through Amazon music and some other internet radio services though:
