[Canadian Tire] MAXIMUM 1/2-in Drive Torque Wrench $69.99

Just found out the torque wrench is on sale.

Not as good as last September deal MAXIMUM 1/2-in Drive Torque Wrench & 24-in Breaker Bar Combo Pack for $69.99 but seems like a warm deal.

Seems like always the same price. When there is no sale, it’s still the same price as a managers special.

The C.T. near me has both the Maximum 1/2 combo and single one for $69.

Bought the Princess Auto 18" one last year for about $20. Just used with 80lb ft and it seems to light. Might get this to compare.

I've been using this torque wrench for 5 years to switch over winter > summer tires and back. Works great. Be sure to always change it back to ~50ft-lb [lowest it goes] afterwords for storage to maintain the torque spring.

EDIT: My Maximum 1/2in looks a bit different, and went down to 20ft-lb. New version looks a bit cheaper and seems to start at 50ft-lb. Be sure to reset back to the lowest before storing.

bought this last weekend, seems legit.

i can now say to several friends "oh, you don't have a torque wrench? every man should have a torque wrench. what's wrong with u."

*puffs chest out*

that alone plus being able to lecture them about the catastrophic failure of car parts not being tightened to spec or how over tightening is bad too is worth the price of admission. Smiling Face With Open Mouth And Smiling Eyes

I wouldn't personally recommend princess auto tools; they're typically good for one use only and then throw away since its typically junk quality... especially power fist.

Been using my Princess Auto torque wrench for over 5 years. Still works like a charm. I do more than just changing over tires twice a year too. Besides, Princess Auto return/exchange policy is amazing.

OK, so how do you know your calibrated instrument.. rolls eyes.. is actually performing the way its supposed to?
Do you think its ever been tested? Do you think the spring is still acting within its range?

for $20, I can tell you its more than likely never been tested within a range.. the slave that put it together probably checked if it went to 50ft-lb at the setting.. maybe.

I guess the way you'll find out if its not working is when your wheel falls off or you're missing lug-nuts (from under or over torquing).

I throw out my master-craft torque wrenches every 5 years, guaranteed there are parts that are failing and its not worth doing a calibration test on it or replacing any parts.. for $60-70 I'll just buy a new one.

If I didn't want to be wasteful, I'd buy this (lifetime warranty):

For the two times a year (seasonal tire swaps) and or during brake and rotor changes; these will serve their purpose.
There is no need to calibrate them.
