Anyone know how frequently CT has these 50% off Mobil 1 oil sales? TIA

This sale happens many times through out the year.

Walmart had these for $23.88 for Black Friday. I grabbed 6 jugs.

Good price. I've used Mobil 1 for years, but I finally switched to Pennzoil this year. At $12/jug it was a no-brainer. Even without the rebate at $22 was an excellent price.

Good question. This is my first time seeing this oil. Note that it's two different products: Mobil 1 vs Mobil Full Synthetic.

From their FAQ:
Why is ExxonMobil coming out with this product?
Drivers entering the full synthetic category have spoken – they want a brand they trust and a great value. To meet these needs, Mobil™ Full Synthetic offers a budget-friendly full synthetic option that guarantees engine protection, meets the latest industry and car manufacturer requirements, and is available in 0W-20, 5W-20 and 5W-30 viscosities. See the guarantee for terms and conditions or call 1-800-ASK-MOBIL (275-6624).
So it's their value offering in synthetic oil. Right away you can see the Mobil FS is rated for 12,000 km whereas Mobil 1 which is rated for 16,000 km. As for how they're able to make the oil cheaper, it's probably cheaper base stock, and less additives. You can see some small property differences in the data sheet, and I'm sure a deep-dig would uncover even more differences. But I would assume for the average car and driver, it's going to be fine.

Good to know!
I wonder if Pennzoil Ultra Plat vs Regular Platinum is a similar story.

I don't think so. Pennzoil Platinum has always been their premium product. Equivalent to Mobil 1. Perhaps Ultra Platinum is the equivalent to Mobil 1 Extended Performance, but due to lack of information from Pennzoil I think the consensus is that nobody really knows exactly what Ultra Platinum is and what it's meant for.

Pennzoil recently came out with a generic "Pennzoil Full Synthetic" in the US, slotted below Pennzoil Platinum, which I think is their entry into this market.

Idea is to have a lower end product that's targeted at price sensitive consumers - people like me that will buy Supertech or Kirkland Signature oil unless something better is on sale.

From my perspective, as long as it meets the specs I need.... could care less what brand it is.

Interesting! Didn't know that. I would expect Castrol to follow suit very soon. It looks like Warren Distribution has really put pressure on ExxonMobil/Shell/BP with their private label oils like AmazonBasics, Supertech, and Kirkland.

I agree, modern oils have come so far that you really can't go wrong with any of them. I actually took the plunge and started using Kirkland in one of my cars. But for my other car, I'm still willing pay pay $5-10 extra for "brand name" oil.

Interesting.
Looks like it's their next step up from conventional or a blend. They claim its 40% better than their conventional.
