Good question. This is my first time seeing this oil. Note that it's two different products: Mobil 1 vs Mobil Full Synthetic.
So it's their value offering in synthetic oil. Right away you can see the Mobil FS is rated for 12,000 km whereas Mobil 1 which is rated for 16,000 km. As for how they're able to make the oil cheaper, it's probably cheaper base stock, and less additives. You can see some small property differences in the data sheet, and I'm sure a deep-dig would uncover even more differences. I don't think so. Pennzoil Platinum has always been their premium product. Equivalent to Mobil 1. Perhaps Ultra Platinum is the equivalent to Mobil 1 Extended Performance, but due to lack of information from Pennzoil I think the consensus is that nobody really knows exactly what Ultra Platinum is and what it's meant for.
Pennzoil recently came out with a generic "Pennzoil Full Synthetic" in the US, slotted below Pennzoil Platinum, which I think is their entry into this market.derass wrote: ↑ I don't think so. Idea is to have a lower end product that's targeted at price sensitive consumers - people like me that will buy Supertech or Kirkland Signature oil unless something better is on sale.
From my perspective, as long as it meets the specs I need.... could care less what brand it is.
