Arguably RFD's favourite can opener is once again on sale, as per Canadian Tire's weekly flyer.

I have this one, any real diff, mine doesn't leave sharp edges either, but I guess it's plastic?
I've owned the one in OP in the past and currently have the one you linked to in your post. BOTH of these can openers cut the top of the can off instead of "just the lid" if that makes sense.

The one in OP is "one piece" and you don't really need to close two arms to "attach" it to the can. You just kinda put the arm perpendicularly to the can and start turning, it basically attaches itself. The little pincer grip thing, that is for grabbing onto and pulling the lid out after you've opened up the can. The black small tab on the left is meant for controlling that pincer grip thing. The pincer grip thing can be useful here and there but when I had one I never used it much to be honest.

My current one (same as yours) uses two arms to attach itself by putting it up to the can and then squeezing the two arms together.

For me personally, the one you have is good enough. When both are not on sale and full price, I'm cheap so I just chose the one you have. But if you don't mind the price difference (and if it's like right now and it's only an extra $2 or so), then the Securimax is easier. I'd get one if I didn't already have mine.

EDIT: Just realized the one you linked to is the MightiCan....I actually have a slightly smaller version of that instead of the exact one you have, same thing functionally though.

I’ve had the securimax opener for 10 years now from cdn tire and it’s used often and performs just as new

I think I paid $15 for it back in the day

Better design, I own this. Cuts the top couple millimeters of the can right off, you can even put the top back on and put a can of veges in the fridge for a day or two.

All of my other cheap manual can openers I've owned became useless after a couple years, this one is good.

After you finish cutting is there a special way to take the opener off of the lid? I've just been yanking it off lol

You spin it back once or twice and it just pops off the can

Surprised it didn’t break if you keep pulling off with force

Thanks for sharing your experience. Now I know what are the differences between the two. I own the two arms one, and I think I can save my money for upgrading.

Bought it last time. It works for some cans but fail on others, some cans have adhesive in the rim and this opener struggles with that.

Honestly not worth it, just get a normal can opener that works on 100% of the cans.

There's a special tool on the side just for that, does anyone read the instructions? Lol

Do you guys wash this thing out after every use? It seems it doesn't really contact the food and I don't want the internals to rust by repeated washing and drying.

Hi. I have an older model that cuts the can :( personally i dont like this. Do they have one that cuts the lid only?

I also have an electric one. Rarely use it.

Thanks

I was able to get some family friends buy this way back when. I recently found out they didn't know how to use it, initially. I was practically worshipped when they learned how to use it. Plenty of YouTube’s on how to use it. If you do use it properly you won’t want to use anything else.
