~~Canadian~~ web hosting services: recommendations

I prefer to have a Canadian service if I can find one. I'm in southern Ontario. I am designing a site which may generate some traffic, and I wish to leave Netfirms.
Thanks for any recommendations in the $10-$20 monthly range.

OVH (and subsidiaries) is in Quebec.
Otherwise there's not much that's Canadian and cheap.

I've been referring directhosting.ca to my clients. So far I haven't had any negative feedbacks from them.

Not Canadian, but recently I have just escaped from Godaddy and found this one http://www.smarterasp.net/. It's quite fast with good price. You can try their 60 days free trial for 1 website (I didn't try, just buy the medium plan but end up with the Premium USD 7.95 / month). Godaddy wanted me renew with a very old classic plan for 203 CAD/year. Their support is really suck. I'm really really happy to quit Godaddy, I was with them since 2009 but so lazy to switch. The nightmare with Godaddy is time to time they update or do something on the server and your website does not work any more, their support does not know what to do to fix and they always return that was the fault of your programming website either the website was running since several years.

BuyShared (https://buyshared.net/) is shared hosting from BuyVM, a Canadian company. The servers are not in Canada though.

LunaNode (https://www.lunanode.com/) is cloud hosting, so you need to manage your own virtual server. Both the company and the servers are in Canada.

I've used and am happy with both services, so I'm not just throwing random names out there.

I'm not saying it's the cheapest, but I'm quite happy with my Digital Ocean hosting.

I've used (and currently use) buyshared.net and love their service.
They're owned / run by a Canadian, but their servers are in Las Vegas and Luxembourg.
Once you turn on cloudflare or a similar service, whether they're surfing form Toronto, Toledo, or Tokyo, their speeds will be great.
You can't go wrong with $5/year * (including dedicated IP address) * USD

CrocWeb is pretty good for its price ... The best time to join/switch host is usually around Black Friday time (ie. 75% off).

Thanks for all those replies. I'm still on the search. I may decide not to necessarily use a Canadian outfit, I don't know...........

Has anyone here investigated yahoo hosting? https://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhost ... pare-plans

One thing which occurred to me about yahoo is that the company is likely to be purchased in the near future, with all the ramifications that might have.

I'm more surprised Yahoo is still around.

Why haven't you chosen any of the recommendations in this thread?

- buyshared.net
- crocweb.com

Are 2 great that you can go wrong with.

Yes, that's a good point. I use the yahoo search engine by default.

I came across A2 Hosting in Ann Arbor Michigan, which is about 240 miles from me. It looks interesting.

I simply haven't decided yet. I usually take 10,000 hours to research something......... unfortunately.
