I tried. The rep said they had waived the $5 monthly modem rental instead.
I did not bother to negotiate further.

I have been with CanNet for 22 months. So far I am happy with the service. No complaint.

They did not waive the $59.98 activation fee.
I can continue to use my existing Hiltron CDA3-35 modem.
PM "CanNetRFD" with your account #. He is the Cannet rep on RFD. He might be able to waive $59.98 activation fee for you.

How was the service in Brampton. I know they work off of Rogers Cable, but were there lots of outages?

Anyone know if a Thompson DCM476 modem would work with this 300Mbps service? Do they require that the modem not have been used for x days like some other ISPs?

Thanks.

I would call and ask. They usually pick up fast.

just contacted carrytel and it looks like they aren't able to match this deal. That was my response from customer service.

From Toronto and chatted this morning and got this deal. 300/20M for 2yr $29.98/m after $39.98/m and wired device rental $5/m and for router $5/m & processing fee $59.95+taxes. Asked if I could use my own modem and router and said I could use own router but didn't support own modem at this time. Also asked about the processing fee and they didn't budge.
So total cost for me would be $29.98/m + $5/m(modem) =34.95/m + taxes. And one time processing fee of $59.95+ taxes.
Overall I'm pretty happy. I will probably check in later to see if I can use own modem and get that $5/m waived.
Thanks OP.

Same as what I got. I didn't talk to anyone though. Just ordered via Modemoutlet. This is what they give you by default.

For anyone upgrading their cable service. Can you comment on how reliable the connection is? Comparable to Carrytel? Are there a lot of outages? I have houses in Brampton and Mississauga.

I asked and was told can't use own modem

I signed up via chat too. Am currently on carrytel, good thing I didn't sign up with Fido on weekend.

Hope it's comparable to carrytel (no problems for 2.5yrs)

I also was offered that deal in my area. Didn’t take it cuz they didn’t wanna wave installation charge.

Yep. CarryTel has been great for me. Hopefully CannetTel is as good.
Now, does any one know if I need to call and cancel with CarryTel or would it auto cancel when I switch over to CanneTel?

You need to call and cancel I think. You can have two service at once so definitely need to call to cancel if you want to stop paying?
