On the other hand, Carrytel is 29.99/month for 50/10, no activation fee and free modem/WiFi. Their reviews are very good.
Never had carrytel but was going to switch because I too looked at reviews but turned out they gave people 10 or 20 dollar credit to post positive reviews. They have a traffic management in their tos so they have the right to limit/lower speeds to pretty much unusable aka throttling. I’ve seen some people say it’s good, some say bad, some having few day outages all comes to the area where you live and your usage I guess.

Well I'm the OP of the Quebec Internet Deals thread. I have hardly seen any negative reviews of Carrytel. People with bad experiences tend to be quite vocal. CIK and CanNet have countless negative reviews. You are better off trying Carrytel first, or Virgin- if you can negotiate the 50% off discount for 12 months ($30/month)

I had recently signed up for cannet 150mbps. It was pretty cheap at $25 plus tax promo so why not. So far it’s getting the job done but peak hours it slows down. Rest of the time’s no issues.

True I suppose. So far I’m looking at virgin if I can get the 50% off, Altima 6 months free 1 year term or Distributel 6 months free both at pretty much $30 but can’t see if Distributel has a contract or not so going to need to call. If no contract with Distributel then most likely going with them for 6 months.

if someone is not happy with a certain company's service, why are they going to write a good review to get credit? (is no use for them)
they would want to leave / cancel that company ASAP and move on.
only people happy with the service would write a review.
when people are not happy many writes bad reviews. But most people that are happy don't bother writing reviews.

There doesn't seem to be a separate thread for Virgin internet.
Anyone have experience with them?
What technology do they use - cable FTTN/ I assume FTTH is not an option.

I have been using CanNet for 2 years, to be honest. It was pretty good for a while. In my case, it turned bad this year... I was using their Cable service, and I knew it should be a little slow in peak time. But they did throttle the speed, and the internet was off for few minutes from time to time, it was pretty slow as well. I called their tech support several times, and asked if they can switch a new modem, they said that they have done something at their side, let me see if the problem been fixed. For sure, it wouldn't. my wife sometimes just switch to the LTE instead of wifi when she used her phone.
A couple of weeks ago, I called to cancel, and the guy wanted me give them another chance to fix issue and sent a new modem to me. When I got the modem, and tried to active it, i've been waiting for an hour and nobody pick up the phone, i called the customer service again, the guy said he will active it in few seconds. I just told him no need to activate, because you guys just pissed me off and just cancelled the whole service.
I will give them 4 stars at the beginning, and 2 stars at the end..

Thanks,

I don't understand why my search on RFD didn't bring any of that up.

I tried "Virgin internet" and also just "virgin" - without the quotation marks of course

The price is definitely enticing.

I am using Carrytel at the moment. No issues, although I don't get the posted DL speed of 75M.
If Cannet offers the same type of service and real speeds as Carrytel, I would probably switch....right?

I am in the GTA north (Markham/Richmond Hill area)
Anyone else in the same area that is using Cannet?

Not true. Had them for almost 3 years, first for 75/10 then 300/20 recently, across two different addresses in two cities. Zero throttling, less than a handful of issues that were easily resolved by staff which are knowledgable. They tend to pick up phones much quicker than Robbellus too. A lot of complaints about Cannet go back to early days when they were CIK and ran what many believed was a brothel on wheels. But they improved a lot. And it sure feels great to pay only $45 all in for 300/20.

Cannet still use CIK as backbone. I see speed test from Cannet users all showing CIK. none actually says Cannet
to me that looks like Cannet is just a reseller of CIK.

I was using 70/10, when I tested, it showed ok speed, but the response time was longer and reality you can feel it was slow reaction. might be your 300 won't feel the slow response.
