Those with Can-Net (especially PREVIOUS account holders), beware!

I have terminated their service since Sept. 2018.

Since December 9, 2018 and today, I have received 10 infringement warning emails from Can-Net. Now I would be mildly concerned and make sure VPN is done properly in the future, but guess what? I DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE!
I'm guessing that they didn't remove my account, and did not update their IP with the new user, and still kept it under my name.

This is scary because Can Net is clearly not having up-to-date information. Imagine if someone did child pornography and the police is cracking down. If Can-Net gives them my name, this would be a disgrace (I might even be reported to the media), even if I didn't do anything!

I've complained the first time (when I got 9 emails at the same time) and they said there's nothing to worry about. Apparently it was some automatically generated email. That's even scarier since they have me under their system as an active user! It happened again today, so I've reported them to BBB. This really is not acceptable.

I thought I'd warn my fellow RFDers of my experience. If you're okay with the sort of issues that I experienced, go for it. But if you're mildly worried in any way, then I'd say look elsewhere.

And to the Verified Rep on this forum, I've sent out an email on Dec. 9, did live chat twice, was assured there's nothing going on and it'll be fixed. I got another email today. I don't think that's right. I sent an email out to support with a forward, but also to BBB. I think as a previous customer, I have the right to warn folks here. I might just be a one-off, but I can possibly one of many, who can be affected by this.

Hi there,

That should not happen and as far as I know, emails should not be auto-generated and sent out to de-activated users. Would you mind forwarding me the email address of the email or possibly a screenshot of the email so we can investigate this issue.

I apologize for this experience. But we will look into this issue.

Screenshot attached. I cropped any personal information. I am PMing you my email address. I got an acknowledgement from the support department and was told it'll be investigated. I just feel this should have been investigated and resolved when it happened the first time (back in December). This is why I really took more extreme measures, and to warn fellow members here.

Hi.

The technician was supposed to come in today from 8 to 11, and never showed up. Try didn't even call my phone.

I am thinking of cancelling my registration now and ask for a refund.

Hi there,

Please forward us your order number. Unfortunately we do not have any control over the technicians since they often belong to the proprietary ISP such as Rogers, Cogeco, Shaw etc.

If you forward us your order number we will escalate the issue to the right ISP. I really apologize for this happening and it really is one of the issues all the smaller ISPs have to deal with.

I am sorry that this happened to you.

[UPDATE] Technician arrived a little bit later but installation is completed.

Hi there,

This has been brought op to our Chief Technical Officer and he has implemented a safety feature to be built into our system so that this will not happen again. Rest assured we value all of our customer's privacy very highly. Your issue is resolved now and you should not receive any more of those emails.

I apologize for all the worrying and inconvenience this has caused.

I am interested in this 60mbps special offer for $29.98 in a Cogeco service area (Hamilton): https://www.cannettel.com/Promotion/CRT60M
Is the offer still available? Is there a Promotion Code that I need to enter? When I click on "Order Now", the price jumps to $59.98?

Hi there it is still available. After you click on "order now" you have to select one of the buttons what we call a radio button. You are selecting the hardware option. After selecting that, all the discounts will be added.

What is the best way to verify if this is available in my area? I've had other ISP websites approve my postal code only to learn they are not actually in my area.

If you would be so kind to PM me your full address I can have my colleague put it through the portals and check what is available in your home.

Kind regards,

Is it possible to get a static ip? (cogeco territory)
Not your standard VoIP. Different and novel options & advice for my RFD friends.

I live in Hamilton, wondering if anyone knows how good Cannet is here. I visit there site and they ask for your card cv number thought that wasn’t allowed? Do they offer paper mail billing? Is service reliable? I like to game and family likes to be on laptops or have the tv on YouTube playing videos. I’ve had dsl for like the past few years and was good but not sure if cable is better or reliable. If there’s an issue is it like carrytel stories where takes days to get someone or they expect you to fix it on your own.

I only ask because my promo with teksavvy will end in couple months and I’ve been having issues small but adds up and gets to me, so looking for an isp. I read dsl reports and few reviews on Cannet and is it true they throttle? There have been negative reviews but I’ve learned from having Primus that even isp with bad reviews could have great service.

I have ordered CanNet services recently but I live in Rogers territory in ON and so far my speeds are consistently and very close to advertised speeds of 75Mbs.
As far as I know they do not have paper billing, I receive everything through email and get charged through my cc.
