Thanks! I just bought this for $299 at TheSource thinking that was a great deal. Gonna order this and return the other one. It's an amazing camera for birds, and surprisingly good at astrophotography. Can see very good details on the moon, and I even got a shot of Saturn with it's rings visible and everything.

A Canon refurb? Refurbed by Canon Mississauga? Not a chance! I won't have anything to do with those useless incompetents again. (5 tries at making a simple repair, and each one created new problems). Pay the extra and buy new if you want this camera.

I can't comment on this exact model, but my dad has the SX40 and for movie shooting the zoom ability can't be beat. I would imagine the 50x would be even better!!

I'm tempted to buy this but I'm worried that a refurbished camera will fail on me and if what you're saying is true then this sounds like a big gamble.

Thanks Op, I'm going to give this a shot, looks like a nice camera for a good deal. Often refurbished is almost like new, unless it's from dell, lol.

How does this rate against the Canon Rebel T3

Some reviews have shown that the image quality of the SX50 may be superior to the SX60.

A very different beast. Not the same class of camera in terms of sensor size or quality of optics available.

I have been holding my breath on that one too...

Just bought this camera from ecanon, thank you OP!

My last purchase from Ecanon store was 2 years ago, refurbished EOS M with EF-M 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 STM and Flash Kit, it came brand new and is working flawlessly so far. I also recommended this website to couple of my friends, no complaints. I can say that Canon has very good quality control on their refurbished products.

Great deal, time to pull the trigger!

Worth mentioning that this model has RAW shooting capability. The newer SX-60 also has this ability, but many superzooms in this price range do not. If you have RAW processing software, use the camera in RAW mode. It will help extend the usability of this camera even more.

Agreed, I would never buy a Canon refurb.

It is also worth mentioning that most Canon point and shoots that do not officially support RAW can have DNG / RAW shooting enabled via CHDK, unofficial firmware. It works quite well and enables a ton of extra features. Such as an accurate battery meter, which Canon can't seem to manage.
