Canon EOS RP $1249.99 ($50 off) + FREE - SANDISK 128GB SDXC UHS

Deal Link:

$1249.99
Savings:
$50 off
Expiry:
March 2, 2023
Retailer:
Canon Canada
Warm deal. We've been looking for an EOS RP which regularly retails for $1299. Some grey market shops have had it for $1,199, but we're looking to have it with stop motion firmware installed, so would rather not deal with a grey market camera. shop.canon.ca now has a -$50 sale, as does Bestbuy and probably other retailers. If you add it to your cart on the canon site, it also adds a free Sandisk 128 GB SDXC UHS card, so a total savings of $100 or so. The camera is on sale until March 2nd. I don't know how long the free card is valid.

I own this camera and absolutely love it. It takes beautiful photos, and mirrorless was a huge upgrade. They also added 24p 4k video option to it. Highly recommend lower-end, full-frame mirrorless.

There's rumours of R8 replacing this to be announced later this month. Perhaps that's why the down votes.

If you need a camera with good autofocus, steer clear!

Keep in mind that this is just a body.
I personally think apart from being a full frame, that this camera is way overrated.
If you want to do 4K video, you should definitely stay away form RP because:

There is no Dual Pixel Autofocus for 4K videos, direct deal-breaker
There is a devastating crop (1.76x) on 4K, this is almost always overlooked. It almost magnifies double. You can't simply shoot yourself with the camera in your hand unless you have less than 15mm, which means no bokeh at all at this focal distance.
Terrible battery life (around 300 shots)
RF lenses cost a fortune.
Can use RF to EF adapter if coming from dslr, but if you already have a DSLR that is capable of shooting 4K, such as 90D or SL3, there is absolutely no need for this madness.

I am not a fan of the RP for the reasons listed by deryowski but the R8 is going to be $1499 USD. Price point will be very different.

No IBIS for R8, Canon always find ways to cripple every affordable bodies, so even with $1500 USD, it has no IBIS unlike Nikon and Sony. Might as well buy a used R6, which is still expensive.

it's crazy in each thread of camera/photography on RFD, there is always downvote or criticize the camera,
but no one find out where we can have better price , if you look for new CANON RP this is great price, I just sold used body no lens for 1000$ on kijiji.

The eos RP is a pretty awful camera

Especially for that price

It's so so SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO slow and just not great

Heck, even the EOS R would be too expensive at that price

I paid less than that for my extremely lightly used Z6 and then bought a fringer adapter so I could keep using my Canon glass.

It's surprising that Canon Canada does not have the Canon R6 Mark II...
The R6 has heating issues when recording 4K. Don't buy the R6 if you want to do 4K. The R6 II has fixed that issue.

It’s not a bad price for brand new RP, and you won’t find very cheap RP even used. Not used to against this deal, but on BF 2022 Canon US had refurbished EOS RP for $599 USD with some free stuff add on as well, unfortunately, there is never any deal in Canada even close to that

The cheap USD price for camera is partly due to the horrific fall in the value of Japanese yen over the last few years. 2 years ago, 1USD buys appx ¥105. Now, 1US buys more than ¥130. So, the USD price of Japanese cameras should have dropped correspondingly. CAD to Yen exchange rate also dropped but not as drastic as USD.

Hobbyist photographer here and I've owned this camera for a couple years. Budget full frame was what I was looking for. I paid around 1200 I believe at Henry's and it came with the EF adapter with control ring thatallows me to use the EF lenses. I mainly use it for stills and it does the job for me.
