Capital One Secured upgraded to Gold ?'s.

A couple years ago I payed $100 for a blue Secured card. 2 days ago on their iOS app & website my card shows that it's been upgraded to Gold with a new number. They haven't mailed me anything or called. Can I expect the card to follow in the mail? Will they return my $100 deposit as well? Thanks.

They ended up mailing me a cheque. I can't get ahold of them about the new card though through chat. I assume it's in the mail. I'll just keep an eye on the account incase the card was intercepted or something.

Same thing happened to me two days ago. I called and asked about it. Then got email today explaining the switch to gold. I've had the card for 4 years so it's about time lol, once I can get approved for one of their platinum cards I'll close the $59 AF gold card.

This thread is interesting.

I have had one of their secured cards for a year (in November). I have paid the balance in full each month.

In another thread I mentioned a few weeks back that I had spoken to them and had been told that my security funds of $75 would be returned and that I would be upgraded to a Gold Card.

I called them to confirm this today and was advised that they do not do card switches. I was also told that I would only receive my security funds back when the account was cancelled. Finally, they said that they did a quick check and that I am not eligible for a credit limit increase. She did mention that that didn't mean that my scores hadn't improved enough to make me eligible for an increase, just that they had not done a review of my account for credit increase purposes. You'd think that after a year of paying off my balance in full each month they would at least increase my credit limit or refund my security deposit of $75.

She said that if I wanted another card I should apply for one online, and advised that I should apply for one of their three Aspire cards rather than the Gold Card. I assumed that the Gold Card was the next step up but she told me to ignore that card and to apply for an Aspire card. She mentioned eligibility criteria but none was listed on the website. When I questioned what those criteria were she mentioned credit score so I informed her of my scores as listed a few posts above this. When I told her that it was in the 700 range she said that that was a good score but that other criteria would also be taken into consideration, but again advised me to apply for an Aspire card.

But despite what I was told today, I am now seeing this thread (after following one of SuperSauvage's posts in the other thread) in which some of you are discussing having your security funds returned and your cards upgraded.

Hmmm? They sent me a cheque with no indication & the card followed by about a month. No CL increase yet though.
When the annual fee is up I'll probably just cancel the card anyway & either apply for an Aspire or something else. Having 2 cards is nice.

If you don't have any derogs on your file then I suggest the PC Financial card through Ratesupermarket.com. You get $25 in free PC Plus points & a $100 or $125 gift certificate. The card is easy to get & has become my main card anyway.

Someone in another thread suggested that I call back but go through the French queue so that I speak to someone in Canada. I did that tonight and spoke to someone in New Brunswick.

He couldn't figure out what the hell the person I spoke to earlier today was talking about. He said that after a year of good payment history they refund the security deposit and upgrade your card to the Gold Card. Since I have paid every month's balance in full (I've never paid them a penny in interest) he said that my history with them is excellent and that I should just hold off until I receive a letter from them because I will be getting my security funds back and will be upgraded to the Gold Card. I would prefer something that comes with some sort of rewards but will wait until after I have been upgraded and will call back to discuss switching to another card. I'm also curious as to whether they will increase my credit limit at that time.

On another note, he also told me that in future I should go through the French queue to guarantee that I speak to someone in Canada.

Gold card has no security. So therefore unsecured. You'll have to wait to find out limit I guess. Up to $7000 I think
