Career as a Notary Public

How much does a full time Notary Public earns?

It seems like an easy and good paying job. Just certifying some true copies of original documents can cost $50 for less than 15mins.

Any comments?

Don't know that there is a huge demand. Most notaries around here don't do this full time.

Here in Ontario, I don't think you can just hang up a shingle to be a notary public. It has to be part of your job that requires the notarizing of documents.

In Quebec, the job is more involved as they look after real estate contracts, wills and power of attorners.

You can't just become a notary in Ontario. You either have to be a lawyer, a paralegal or be in an existing business that requires notary privileges.

A Canadian citizen may apply for appointment as a non-lawyer notary public for Ontario. Applicants will only be considered if their employment requires the notarizing of documents in the Province of Ontario for:

Senior government officials
Ontario registered corporations engaged in international or inter-provincial trade and/or commerce
Patent and trademark agents
Head offices of national or provincial unions engaged in out-of-province business.
