1000L is alot of gas... Also forces you to "stay" with esso to recoup your savings.

So around 1000L x 1.2avg $ / L of 87oct = 1200$.
25$ + 5$ =30$ saved / 1200 $ = 2.5% savings.

Not a great %... Better options out there.

IMO
Saving of $5 by paying $195 for $200 value = $5/$200 = 2.5%
The 2.5 cents of 1000L is extra saving if you use it. Based on my experience, you may not be able to use up all 1000 L as normally they always expire by 31/DEC of the same year (Reference to other ESSO fuel saving promo e.g. FIDO Xtra 2.5c fuel discount of 1000 L)

Actually in the last 5+ years (maybe longer, that's the first time I got one) the savings cards have never expired despite what it says on them.

Every single year, usually Q2 or Q3 ESSO always makes an exception and says cards are good until the next year regardless of there listed expiry date.

Ofcourse there is always the risk they won't do it again next year, but so far it's a good bet they won't expire due to history.

But yea it's a good deal since regardless of you use the card or not, you save $5 / 2.5%. Yea it would encourage you to lean your loyalty towards esso more, but that's not a bad thing. Since they joined PC optimum, they are by far the best loyalty gas program. Been like 75% of the time able to get 5-8% or more back with promos. (And points are not fixed at 1cpp like most, since you can get greater value at shoppers many times thru the years with spend points promos)
Rarely Shell with air miles is better, but so what, thats like maybe 1 out of 15 times for me, so that one time I go to shell. (That said ,shell is awesome for loyalty points as a convenience store to buy gift cards, just sucks for gas lol)

Maybe it's only apply to my experience, my 1000 L fuel discount card was reset to 0 L in my Esso Speedpass mobile app. Hopefully, this fuel saving expiry date is extended.
Esso in my area generally is cheaper than Shell which kind of driving me to buy the gift card (also the PC Optimum point that you've mentioned)
Shell occasionally have targeted extra 20 AM promo which I've been getting for the past 2 months
