I'm with Bell 25/5 but they upgraded me to 300/100 for free because of my area, do you think I can keep that speed if I switch?

You cannot keep the speed if you switch.

This looks like a great deal, been out of the country for a while and need new service - any drawbacks to this compared to say Tek savvy which was reccomended to me? I'm in a fairly large basement apt and need good reception to all rooms primarily and good streaming at all hours.

Some have issues with P2P downloading.

You should get a good router for better wireless coverage and stability. I think most people have their own router. Being said that, you can always test their supplied modem/router first. If it fits your need, you can use it as your router.

Ah okay thanks, so torrenting may be a problem, or just slower? That sucks.

Would Tek savvy have better modems on offer? I'm not savvy enough to find a modem of my own, never researched them and short on time to get service.

It is always better to get your own router. Even a higher model from you ISP is not comparable as most midrange routers. You can get a TP Link Archer series router.

Hm carrytel only recommends the TP Link Archer w9970 which seems hard to find (like at bestbuy where i can get quickly) - anyone savvy enough to know if another TP Link Archer model from say best buy or staples would work for sure?

This one is a modem that you do not need it. You just need a router. Archer AC1200 and up should be good for home use. You can do price check on Amazon as well.
