Cars and problems you've had with them?

Besides regular maintenance, what problems have you had with your vehicles?

Ill start...
2013 Ford Fiesta
- Radio failed at approximately 200k. Would cause a loud crack/pop/screech even with the car off. Even turning off the power would not rectify it
- Drivers side seat rail broke at about 210k because they use a plastic holder with ball bearings thats non servicable
- Headlight shroud on both sides detached inside the headlight (Headlights are stock)
- Lower control arm failed at approximately 200k
- 02 sensor blown
- Throttle body required replacing at 215k
- suspension had a knock from new. Changed suspension to monroe quick struts and upgraded the sway bar links. Did not fix the issue
- Easy fill system has been nothing but problems.
- Fords service plan does not communicate between dealers. Burned through a set of rear tires within the first 40k.
- Hood seam weld on front has rusted since the first 100k.
- Fuse box corroded causing headlight to fail (fuse snapped inside the block due to all the corrosion). Ford just recalled the fuse block now, 6 years later

2012 Mazda 3 skyactive
- Carbon build up within the first 25k of ownership resulting in idle issues. Mazda stated they were doing me a favour this time by chemically cleaning
- Failed Pedal position sensor (120k)
- Paper thin sheet metal = dents everywhere
- fuel door seized shut. Pop pin required lubing

2007 Accord V6
- Random transmission fault code (standard)
- Pretty built proof and sold at 200k

2007 Honda fit
- No issues

2003 Cavalier
- Lease, no issues.

2002 Civic 5 MT

Fuel tank cable broken - opens via slight touch now
Trunk cable broken - use key
Suspension - fixed under extended warranty in 2008. Front struts replaced last year because it failed the corner bounce test
A/C clutch conked out, paid out of pocket in 2011 or 12
A/C compressor died this year -- no more cool air in the summer for life
Rusts all over - weighs like a Miata but doesn't handle like one
Electrical issue leading to buzzing noise- removed DRL fuse
Headlight bulb toast - replaced one and both are still good

Biggest curse or blessing -- car won't die haha

Good thing issues crop up early on Ford vehicles. :)

All your rants on the explorer have really scared me off from getting one. My buddy has a 14 limited and his rear seal went on it... 60k on the motor. Also, some issue with the shocks blowing. He's gone through 2 sets now and only something like 67k on it.

The 2020 redesign have pretty much eliminated the major issues, going with a longitudinal engine and much beefier transmission.

1986 Cressida:
Blown head gasket at 250,000 km about age 20.
Auto transmission failure 270,000 km, replaced with used unit about age 23
Radiator 280,000 km about age 24.
Second cooling system failure 298,000 km age 25, this time cracked the head.

I still wanted to fix it...but my funds were drying up.

2004 Impreza:
Catalytic Converter failure(P0420) at 215,000 km age 8.
Loose suspension 230,000 km age 9, no parts replaced.
Timing belt snapped 240,000 km age 9.

2014 FRS:
Seems trivial compared to the others, but:
Rattling interior trim at about 25,000 km. Age 3.
Battery replaced 40,000 km Age 4.

I had what I luckily found out was a simple problem where there was no heat except while driving. It turns out there was air in the coolant system and when I had followed the steps here, https://www.justanswer.com/honda/8g2j2- ... 2-1-7.html, the problem was resolved.

This was on a 2001 Honda Civic LX.

NOT GOING TO BOTHER WITH RECALLS.

I can't remember the details but I had Engine and Transmission problems. I was at Frost Pontiac say 12 time over the 18 months I owned it. I had to call in Roadside Assistance twice. 1999 Pontiac Grand AM V6.

My 2002 Acura RSX Premium. Not sure if this was the reason I had problems with the Charging System because one afternoon I left the Moonroof open and it was raining. Obviously, I went out and started it, closed it.

It had an aftermarket audio system.

2008 Nissan Altima Coupe 3.5SE. The alternator was replaced.

2015 Nissan Murano SL AWD. Nothing.

2017 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring. *knock-on-wood* So far so good.

Same civic. Only issue I had other than the rotors was the rear wiper gave out twice, the second time it was fixed it hasn't happened since. Something about the bolt behind it kept coming loose. The subwoofer I have may have been the issue but it's been fine for 2 years now

1998 Nissan Quest (great car, RIP)
- the whole thing rusted out before anything needed to be replaced in the engine

1993 Toyota Cressida great car, had a supra engine (got hit n run, RIP)
- rwd and the wheel locks up causing the car to do 180 degree spins off of stops when it’s slippery out.
- bad oil leak

2002 Honda Accord x2 250,000-325,000km (RIP)
- both gas tank rotted out around 14 years
- both fuel line rot
- both left wheel well rust
- tranny on the 4cyl was jerky but never replaced
- slight oil leak after 250k
- power steering leaked
- awful top coat flaking off

2016 Hyundai Sonata 68,000km
- colour red is a bird shit magnet
- engine pings when it’s warm out, oil dilutes with gas
- the paint of the hood is very thin, lots of tiny rock chips
- the car is kinda low, long and wide for a sedan, visibility is the worst out of all the cars in my list

2012 RAV4 v6 23,000km
-interior creaks when it’s cold
-gas tank is smallish for me and the v6
- lot of road noise
- outdated interior

2013 odyssey 380,000km
- nothing really and this car has been abused by work

2015 Nissan NV3500 Passenger 115,000km (it got totalled last year)
- v8 gas guzzling monster
- Chrome is nice but it started rusting after a year
- drivers door lock somehow broke 6 months in
- the whole brake replacement cost $1,000+ after 2 years
- since it's a big rectangular box...its a work out to drive it when it's windy and wind + black ice and rwd =lots of fun....(truck was great in the snow though)
- I can't make it in some parking garages

2008 VW gti,

Walked up to the car one day after work and NO electronics worked including

-Sunroof
-All power windows
-Seat heaters
-Door Locks ( both in car and key-fob)
-Gas cap ( from the switch in car, needed to manually pull the tab)

Only 2 things that did work electronically was the gauge cluster & radio.

Spent four weeks in dealership service as they kept on ordering new electronic modules and doing coding, got a few things to work but could not fix the sunroof, heated seats, and passenger windows could only be operated from driver door.

It was at a time when I had already done a factory order for a new car, and they had done the valuation/ trade in for the gti before the issues arose. They tried to back out of the sale, eventually with lots of back and forth they 'allowed' the trade in, as the original car was still under factory warranty.

Had a KIA Optima for 5 years. Not a single issue. Drove great right till I sold it.
Both brands have won so many awards I don't see the brand as a problem. Even the haters have disappeared once the facts were thrown at them LOL

2017 Honda CR-V, oil dilution problem. So bad I had 6 oil changes in less than 12K Kms. 2 recalls and still had the problem. Sat in waiting room waiting for oil changes and there were others with the same issue. Got rid of it before the problem got worse or the engine suffered. Will not tell anyone not to buy a Honda as it is a great vehicle but the 2016 to 2018 1.5 turbo engines could have a unresolved problem and you never know till it is too late.

My cars
1999 - 2003
1990 Honda Prelude - General maintenance. Axles, Alternator went and decided to get something new at 300,000kms
2003 - 2013
2000 Nissan Maxima - General maintenance. MAF sensor, Coil packs. Numerous ball joints and axles from being lowered, alternator. Heavily modded engine wise. Parted out and scrapped at 330,000kms, body was rotting
2013 - 2019
2004 Acura TL - General maintenance. Transmission started to go. 340,000kms. Scrapped it
2019 -
2006 BMW 330XI. 130,000kms on it. N52 engine (was not touching an N54). Starter went a week into ownership

Family vehicles
2008 - 2012
2008 Nissan Rogue. General Maintenance
2012-2016
2012 Nissan Rogue. General Maintenance
2016-Present
2015 Nissan Pathfinder. General maintenance. Leather repair under warranty

To be honest I've been lucky. Based on the mileage I personally drive cars, I have had nothing major that was not expected to go before its time. Knock on wood, family cars have been good to us and those go on numerous trips as well.

True. The 2020 explorer has been redesigned which probably leads to new issues
