Never watched F&G before. Checked out pilot episode last night. Using Chromecast with CBC Gem I don't get any advertisements.

Is it always commercial-free or did I luck out?

@fudge_u , I'm thinking it's because I'm running preview firmware on the Chromecast. Had same thing with CTV app movies, commercials wouldn't play. It's a good kind of glitch.

I'm not running anything extra on the router side.

No commercials again today when I streamed 'The Trouble With Apu' from the CBC Gem app.

You lucked out, unless you have a spam/ad blocker setup on your router. Commercials are minimal though, not as many compared to when you're watching through a set-top box.
