It's amazing how Westjet started off a much better non-corporate alternative to Air Canada has become the worse completely corporate alternative to Air Canada.

It's especially amazing because failing to clear that bar is really quite the limbo achievement. I used to like Westjet as the cheap and cheerful one. Now, they're just, I dunno, the blue one I guess.

This was prior to March 2020... I've had Westjet change my flights a few times and for me I didn't ask for a refund since when I called them, I was allowed to change the flight that they changed as well as my return flight (or allowed to change my departure flight as well as the return flight which they changed) without penalty or fees.

For me, I was just going on vacation alone so it wasn't like their change affected some scheduled event that I needed to be at the destination on a particular day or a particular hour.

I think once for example, I picked Montreal to Toronto to Las Vegas. I think the time for Montreal to Toronto was like 3pm and flight from Toronto to Las Vegas was at 6:00pm They changed the flight from Montreal to Toronto and which meant staying in Pearson airport longer so I called them and noticed that they had Montreal to Toronto at 7:00am and Toronto to Las Vegas at I believe 10:00am so I switched for free to this. This allowed me to arrive in Las Vegas in the afternoon as opposed to the late evening which is what my original flight would have been for me to arrive in Las Vegas after 9:00pm. Only reason why I didn't book and pay for the earlier flight to begin with was because the afternoon flight was less expensive and I was willing to lose a day/afternoon for the price difference. In the end, I came out ahead.

What's worse is that they were still advertising that they were the old WestJet when clearly they were not. Obviously, the Dark Side has many deceptions!
