as someone looking to get back into driving sims, is this a good game with good peripherial support? or should I get iracing or some other sim (not really sure what the competition is now)?

I remember playing the original project cars and thought it was pretty good but that was ages ago. Does Project Cars 2 still set the standard in terms on sims or is there a better platform to get started in?

I originally bought the Just Drive Humble Bundle which included Project Cars 2. I like it so much that last week I re-bought it as the Deluxe Edition (it's the version with all the DLC included). It's got great support for wheels and pedals and shifters from all the big manufacturers. I ordered an Oculus Quest last week and can't wait to try it out in VR. I'm using a Fanatec wheel and pedal setup to drive with.

I haven't gotten too far in the career mode of the game. I'm having to much fun just doing laps around the tracks and trying to learn them. They have quite a few big name tracks. There's quite a few cars to choose from as well. The graphics are amazing. They say this is more of simcade compared to other sims. Well worth the $8.79 price.

The Just Drive bundle totally put me in the poor house. I totally got hooked into these driving games and ended up purchasing a wheel, pedals, shifter, cockpit, VR headset. I also ended up re buying Assetto Corsa with all the dlc - I am just amazed with all the community mods for AC.

Note racing games might be a little nauseating if you're new to VR, I suggest getting your VR legs underneath you a bit beforehand. There's in-game options to greatly reduce motion sickness such as locking the horizon line that should help a lot.

Definitely worth it at this price. I've put a solid 30-40 hours into the game over the past 2 months now that I have a proper beginner sim rig setup (G29, GT Omega wheel stand and rear frame with bucket seat).

If you've ever gone to an arcade and wanted to replicate that experience and/or you want a more immersive experience than a controller, this is a great game to do that in.

Would it be good idea to get the deluxe edition for $17.69 which gives you more cars and tracks?

Well, it works great in VR, so not sure why it would have an 'awful' experience.

Personally, yes. That's what I bought. $18 is a steal for the pint of content, and online is till fairly active.

picked the just drive bundle as other ops here. Project Cars 2, way more tracks, nicer selection (Streamlined of vehicles). Asset Corso not as engaging, either through user menu navigation or odd refresh changes it did on my vid card gtx series. Haven't gotten into VR, but lots of fun using PC with thrust master T3PA, steering wheel (belt driven super smooth and had to dial back the feedback settings because often too strong), TH8A manual shifter, pair this with wheelstandpro you can fold and a relatively good minimalist sim setup.

From what I've read, the driving mechanics are abysmal. Just sayin'.

The price went up a bit for both the standard and the deluxe edition (ended up costing CA$ 21.19)

Don’t see the driver in the video changing gears with the paddles.

Some older games have that concept. Hard pass.

Anyone getting into Assetto Corsa, the stock "launcher" does not give an optimal experience and the game looks like it's from 2014, because it is. Download the Content Manager launcher, and marvel at the enhancements built by the AC community. Custom Shaders Patch overhauls the graphics to look like a more modern game. Sol weather, adds day/night cycle, clouds, fog, etc. to make it look quite stunning. Plus there's a dizzying number of tracks and cars that are as good or better than what comes with the game.
