Cell phone plan for family of 5

Does anybody know if a good family plan for a family of 5? I'm currently with Koodo paying $265 a month for 5 lines and data totalling 40gb.

I've heard if family plans where you share data which would be great since the kids use way more and parents could get less. I called Telus who said they don't have a family plan anymore and then bell who wanted $325 a month.

Just wondering if anybody has a good cheaper family plan they could recommend. Thanks

I got a cheaper plan because of the 35% discount. But right most carriers are offering 10gb for average price of $45 to $50 that's a BYOP. If you have access to any EPP I think can save a little bit, like my Roger EPP offer $60 15gb with Samsung S21 x 4 $240 + tax
With Freedom because of discount im paying $150 + tax which is a little bit cheaper plus I get free phone to use.

Suggest you crunch the #s & look at the data usage per person..............

It might be possible that individual plans come out cheaper.........I find that Rogers has a shareable plan but the rates come out so much higher vs individual plans

Does everyone need LTE data or can some folks go with 3G data?

For example - you have 2 kids that need a lot of data but the 3 adults don't & they can go with 3G data...

Line 1 - Koodo: $50/10Gb data for Kid #1
Line 2 - Koodo: $50/10Gb data for Kid #2
Line 3 - 5 - Public Mobile: $25/1GB data for adults #3 - 5

Total cost = $50 + $50 + $25 + $25 + $25 = $175

But your total data = 23Gb

Or some combo......

Fido data plans. Go cheap or go home.

Never understood how some families are willing to give these telcos $2-300 a month.

Kids don't need 10GB of data.

All they do is waste time on crap like tiktok or snapchat.

Good for the shareholders I guess.

Yep, me neither. The point is, there is no amount of data that you cannot use and more you have, more you gonna 'waste'. I got Fido data plan for my kids and combined with Voip.ms, plan comes really cheap and with a reasonable amount of data (4GB).. For 2 years, since Fido was giving 5$ discount if you take a tablet (I never understood that part that they are 'paying' you to take a free tablet), I'll be paying around 7$ for this combo. That's hard to beat.

But, if that's not an option, I think family sharing plans are generally much more expensive than getting some individual combo. One problem that I see in sharing data, that you might run out of it since all are thinking we have a lot and let's use it for everything. I'd rather get them some decent plan 10GB or so from Fido or some other provider. Also, I know that Fido sometimes just give you some more data on top of it.

Good luck.

Rogers is the only other one with shared data plans I think, and their plans are either the same price or more expensive than Bell.

I don't know what your data needs are... But just looking at Fido's individual plans right now, they've got a $50/10gb which would work out to $250/50gb for your family. Actually, there's also an add-a-line promo right now where you get $5 off per month for 24 months for each line that you add, and a bonus 2gb of data for each line too, which would work out to $230/58gb for 2 years. You can adjust accordingly as well, if you need less data for some plans vs others (plus, Fido often offers plan upgrades to existing plans - I've had a $65/35gb offer on my account for 6 months now). If you find an existing Fido subscriber to refer you you'll get a free month's service as well, for your first referred line (you could also try to do the math to see if self-referrals for the other 4 lines ends up being cheaper overall than the add-a-line promo. It might end up being better, I'm too lazy to do the math myself).
