CEWS processing centre?"CRA" scam?

Hi the CRA processing centres for my corporation are usually Sudbury and Ottawa. Yesterday I received a voicemail from a 204 (Winnipeg?)area code addressing me by first name asking me to call back otherwise my CEWS application won't be approved. Does it look like a scam? Caller asked me to call back this 204 # but and also read out a paragraph of disclaimer basically saying as it is not a secure line, answer with this caveat!
Anyway I have asked my accountant to deal with it. But it sounds fishy.

Phone numbers can be spoofed, so it's always best to call the number listed on the CRA website.

The government said that something was supposed to start happening with the CEWS applications May 5, but so far nothing. That certainly leaves the door open for scammers, but since we don't know what form the response will take, it could be anything from phone calls to emails to messages on the CRA web site to a straightforward bank deposit. There is a large CRA processing centre in Winnipeg for western Canada, and the CRA could be distributing the workload. Caller ID can be spoofed, and leaving call-back messages is not a secure way of contacting people, but the CRA does it routinely. You can check the number in Google to see if it has been flagged as either a legit CRA number or mentioned as a probable scammer - but it's hit and miss.

checked whocallme+whycall.me both no hit. Its a 204 # and not the usual CRA1-800 or 1-866 numbers. Both scammers and genuine cra staff can be working from home!

Review of CEWS applications began this week and is being distributed to staff across the country. Staff from various departments have been redeployed to help with processing the applications. Staff are working from home using cell phones. They will not be calling you from a 1800 number. if you are unsure if the number is legit, call the CRA hotline and ask them to confirm that the person who called you is a CRA employee.

Btw the agents have been instructed to issue that disclaimer about an insecure line because they are all using cell phones

I know it seems fishy but it's probably not

I responded in the other thread in the Entrepreneurship & Small Business forum already, but I’ll repeat it here. I got a voicemail from 431 number in Winterpeg. I called it and it was legit. They had all my pertinent corporate tax information already, but just wanted to clarify a few details. They did not ask me for other identifiers or account information that could be used to steal my identity.

BTW, they game their name and listed their CRA agent number so if you wanted to you could call CRA to verify.
