Change shower fiberglass to tile worth it?

hey folks
In my masterbedroom I have surround fiberglass walk in shower with seat, i was thinking to get rid off it and install shower base + glass door + tile surround walk in option.
It would cost me close to $3000, do you guys think this is worth it for value of house or any benefit?

One disadvantage is that there is much more maintenance to a tiled shower versus a fiberglass walled shower. Another is that an improper installation is more likely, leading to potentially water damage. It's a lot harder to screw up a fiberglass shower, especially if it has no seams.

One advantage is that tile looks significantly better.

Value wise it would depend a lot on what your neighbourhood has. If you significantly overbuild your house (for your neighbourhood) then your return on investment is smaller. For example if you live in a condo building where everyone has carpeted rooms, laminate countertops in the kitchen, etc. and you go put engineered hardwood, custom kitchen with high grade granite countertops and a granite slab backsplash - your return will be much smaller because of significantly overbuilding it.

No - you'll end up with nasty looking grout, leaks, bigger cleaning headaches. You'll never get the return on the investment and have a headache to deal with.

Spend the $3000 somewhere else. I don't think $3000 is enough anyhow. The glass would cost 1/2 of that.

I have to agree with that the others said. I know that most people prefer to have a tiled shower but I really don't get it. It might look better at the beginning (later, the grout often looks dirty) but otherwise I only see negative issues. While I obviously do it, I don't really like (like pretty much everybody I guess) cleaning. It is easy and it doesn't take too much time to get my acrylic shower to be spotless clean white. Since it is one piece, it won't leak as long as the drain is connected properly and it is not cracked (easy to see). I have watched way too many renovation shows to see so many leaking tiled showers (installed by DIY or "pros" no one seems safe from a terrible installation). On top of that, even if a tiled shower was less expensive while, I know it is not the case, I would be willing to pay more to have a single piece shower than any shower with joints all over the place.

Maintenance is so much easier with acrylic, I would not change mine for a tiled shower even if it would look a bit better. Even then, you can get a nice clean looking acrylic shower and you already have tiles on the ground, you can add tiles to an accent wall (ex: behind the bath) and/or as a backsplash for your vanity so you can have something that will look really good overall.

Define “worth it”. Are you talking about improving your resale value? Are you talking about enjoying your snazzy tile job while you’re soaping your junk in the morning?

With the possible exception of paint, very few home improvement projects will make you more money than they cost you, especially if you have to pay someone else to do them. For example, if your shower costs you $3000, maybe you can get an extra $2000 if you were to sell the house next week. So you’d still be down $1000.
