changing cell phone number

Quick question, because I can't find anything online that directly speaks to this... I want to change my cell phone number. Have mobility companies in Canada started putting that auto message on cell phones like landlines have - "this number has been changed, the new number is..."? Or am I in charge of giving out my new number? I'm with Telus.

You will be required to give out your number to whom you want it given out too, however, companies haven't started putting the message ''this number has been changed'', but they have put in place a message that its been disconnected which your old number they indeed will have.
