Changing the Tax Return (REfile?)

Hi all,

So I filed my taxes today through WealthSimple, daughter was crying in the background, I should have paid more attention. Realised I forgot to claim for moving expenses and RRSP deductions (even though minor).

Would appreciate the advices of the tax experts on the below points:

1. I immediately tried to REfile - but it seems that the return needs to be assessed by CRA first, before it can be changed?

2. Will I be able to use REfile to change my return? The error message I had when trying to refile said I might need to send a paper T1 adjustment form. So not sure if changes can be done electronically.

3. For the tax refunds, will they process the first payment, then re-assess the modified return and proceed to a second payment? Or will it be only one payment?

Thank you for any advices

Have to wait for the NOA created first before refile.
If the software has the refile function, then yes.
2 refunds.

I had to ReFILE last year because I missed a T5.
Since I filed online (I used StudioTax), I was able to use ReFILE and not mail a paper Form T1-ADJ.

I'm also echoing ml88888888's answers to your questions:
1. Yes, you have to wait for your initial return to be assessed. Only then can you make changes to your return.
2.You should be able to ReFILE if your initial return was filed online and if the ReFILE exclusions do not apply in your case.
3. Yes, CRA will assess initial return and send refund (if applicable). Then CRA will assess modified return and send another refund (if applicable) or indicate balance owing.

In my case, I already got my Notice of Assessment and refund and, unfortunately, it was past the May 2 tax deadline when said T5 arrived in the mail.
I did ReFILE, got the reassessment the next day (I think) and had to pay taxes (including interest).

Thank you guys, appreciate it. I'll wait for the first NOA.
