"Chapman's" ice cream now "Markdale Creamery" ice cream

Chapman's is rebranding their classic 2L boxed ice cream to "Markdale Creamery" ice cream, going from family name to name of the town they are in.

If you request their coupon this year https://www.chapmans.ca/coupon/chapmans ... upon-2023/ it is good on "Markdale Creamery" branded products only (to be clear, the 2L box ONLY).

Perhaps we will see retailers blow out old stock at a good price as the new packaging rolls in?

I wonder if they are trying to shake their reputation for really fluffy, air-whipped product.

Seems odd because I associate the boxed stuff, & the brand name with little kids the most...but they are upscaling the name of the boxed stuff & none of the rest of it yet.

Yes, nothing else changes. Also, they have a new line, Chapman's "Super Premium Plus," which is even more allergen-friendly (no nuts, eggs, etc.).

Perfect.

I have a nephew with a peanut allergy. Whenever they come over I am so used to just grabbing Chapman's without looking at labels. Need to get used to the new branding now is all.

So whats the law for it to be called legally icecream? Anyone have a previous box to see if the ingredients / formula are the same

100% Canadian Dairy but can be in any form?

At least there is no artificial flavours least for Vanilla

"Sugars (sugar, glucose), Fresh cream, Modified milk ingredients, Mono and diglycerides, Carob bean gum, Cellulose gum, Guar gum, Carrageenan, Vanilla extract, Natural flavour."

Seasonal?
Pandemic cull?
Prob come around again
I like Chapman's despite the air and the additives 'cause I'm a frugal philistine not a Rockefeller

Finally found out about Chapman's single serve "sundae" thermal cups. Hospitals serve 'em and they're thermal 'cause the cup is styrofoam so content doesn't melt so fast - no wooden spoon

It has always been around, it just has really poor distribution. I used to be able to get it at 1 Freshco in town but I have not seen it there as of late. Website says they are still cranking it out.

They had a special fantasy/wizardry line out for a while with a grape ice cream I also loved but that was definitely special edition.

I may have to hit the local cone shop for my fix, but they have pineapple Dole Whip (like at Disneyland, new to me), so I am going to have to bump those flavours down my list until I try that. Too much competition for my taste buds!

I have never understood the worship of Dole whip by Disneyland goers (I too go to Disneyland - but not for Dole whip). We had Dole whip sold at the hotdog stand at a mall here in Victoria, BC in the mid-80s (when I was still a kid), and I never found it anything to write home about. I've had it at Disney. It is okay, but nothing I would go out of my way for.

Cuz you were over exposed as a kid

For the rest of us …

Well …
Seeing as it’s right on the Chapman’s website …
We most definitely can discuss the difference

https://www.chapmans.ca/scoop/100-canadian-dairy/

Cdn Ice Cream MUST contain 100% real milk or milk products (cream - skim milk powder - whey )

Also butterfat can come into play … REAL heavy duty ice cream must contain at least 10% Butterfat
Lighter versions more like 5% (think DQ type ice cream … which is why it’s called ice milk )

Whereas … Frozen Desserts are largely made up of oils & oil products

There are no rules governing air …
And whipping
Much like you can buy whipped butter at the grocery store

But ya … whether it’s legally called ice cream, ice milk, frozen yogurt
Or a frozen dessert
It all comes down to the ingredients more so than the process

I just learned from Wikipedia that it is dairy-free & vegan & whipped up from powder & water, so maybe I'll cross it off my list?

I thought it was like real pineapple enhanced soft-serve. If it is all chemical, I don't think I am into it.

To me, Dole whip tastes like juice in soft serve form. The image of it makes you think ice cream, but when hitting your tongue it's totally juice. Not creamy juice, but just juice in a different texture. It doesn't taste like ice cream at all. Like closer to a sorbet. It's fascinating to the senses. It's fun to try as part of the theme park experience. It's not exclusive to the Disney theme parks.
