Chapters-Indigo iRewards program is no more

I know the Chapters-Indigo iRewards program was discontinued a while back, but some folks (such as myself) were given lifetime memberships many years ago. Those iRewards accounts remained active because, well, they were lifetime memberships.

Not any more.

Today, I received this email from Chapters-Indigo:
NOTICE – Change to iRewards Program

Indigo has been working towards unifying its customer loyalty experience by consolidating its loyalty platform into the plum® program, which consists of two tiers, a free plum program and a paid plum PLUS program.

As we are moving to one unified loyalty platform, we are suspending our iRewards program as of November 1, 2021. As the iRewards program is coming to an end, memberships held under this former program are also ending.

We recognize and greatly appreciate your loyalty to Indigo, and as a former “Lifetime” iRewards member you are one of our most valued customers. We are excited to put our appreciation into action by offering you a complimentary 10 - year plum PLUS membership. This offer is exclusive to our former “Lifetime” iRewards members.

plum PLUS is Indigo’s paid, premium tier membership. As always, we’re working to create the most seamless and enjoyable experience at Indigo. In order to better serve you, we’ve refined our plum PLUS program to offer richer savings and everyday benefits, beyond what was formerly offered through our historical iRewards program.

As a plum PLUS member, you will:
• Enjoy 10% off almost everything, in-store and online.1
• Benefit with free shipping every day.2
• Earn 5 plum points for almost every dollar spent.3
• Have VIP access to exclusive promotions and events.
For full plum PLUS terms and conditions, visit indigo.ca/plumPLUS-Terms.

If you have any questions, please contact us at 1-833-INDIGO-1. Thank you for your loyalty. We look forward to welcoming you to plum PLUS.
I'm pretty sure there's nothing I can do about it since the current terms and conditions say something about Chapters-Indigo having the right to change the program at any time. (Although I'd love to see the original contract I signed 20 years ago when I signed up.) It's still pretty crappy that a "lifetime" membership is no longer "lifetime".

I hear ya, frustrating that these " loyalty" programs keep getting "revised", the more " loyal" you have been, the more frustrating it becomes, it seems, with minimal leeway for long time customers...

At the same time, this "company" hasn't been a money maker for the Reismans. Probably (at best) a cash flow positive proposition but no growth, that's for sure.

To me, these actions actually spurred the move to try out online more starting a couple of yrs bk eg I wasn't an Amazon user until my first purchase: a fire stick 4k on sale during 2019 black Friday, which I wouldn't have bothered w/in the past. (not well versed in technology, as can be gleaned by my recent joining in RFD eg I'm late to the "game" lol)

At this point, my $ have been just been going to COST, AMZN, WMT and to some extent HD/Dollarama, Shell, and, my local bike shop/golf shop/Bowling league and igarage (the latter on an annual basis for an old but trusty vehicle for maintenance :)

certainly don't have "loyalty" programs attached in them, save for air miles. (My HD $ is actually very small, just put it in here since that's where I go for things I can't find in Costco or Dollarama or Walmart eg specialized DIY stuff, cheap saw etc lol)...

Yeah it's always lifetime of the product, not your lifetime.

If I recall though, one of the rewards programs (maybe it's iRwards) would have an expiry date of like June, that they would always keep revising and extending by 1 year.

Yes, I think lifetime is all about when product lasts

Hmmm I didn't get any email and I have a Plum card with points. So does this mean I have to use my Plum points by Nov '21?

No, you're already on the new program. The old (non-Plum) program is being discontinued.

ya its just like how ram has a "lifetime warranty" i for the fun of it contacted kingston about a stick of failed SD ram i had a couple years ago just to see what they would say guy pretty much laughed and said ya we have no SD ram around anymore ur warranty is void. funny enough i contacted Corsair about a failed stick of DDR 1 Ram and they said ya we have none to replace it with but we can refund u the original msrp of the stick so life time warranty and stuff like that really all depend on many things like if a company stays in business for 1 and how the company seems to fill that like kingston would only replace it but since there was no replacement they pretty much said to bad were corsair said we have no replacement but will give u money to go away and hopefully that makes u happy enough to stay a customer in the future.

This

Chapters / Indigo OLDER iRewards Program is being discontinued

The NEWER Plum & Plum Plus Programs remain.

Plum is the FREE program, Plum Plus is the PAID ADD ON.

Sounds like you have the regular Plum Membership.

If you buy a lot of books or countless other things from Indigo / Chapters … (Stationery - Baby - Toys - Fashion - Home Goods - Electronics - Wellness) then going to the Plum Plus upgrade can be worthwhile.

After our Grandkids came along … we found real value in Plum Plus
