You're sure its the charger and not the battery? I got burned with my old laptop buying a charger and it turned out it was the battery, now I have an extra charger and dead battery.

Take out the battery, plug in the charger, and power on the laptop. See if it works. If yes, then it's the battery. If no, then it seems like it would be the charger.

I used to have an Inspiron 1525. I just bought batteries from China from eBay. They were pretty good. They didn't seem to last as long as the original but not bad for $35 to $45 compared to around $130 from Dell.

Thank you. Did this. It is the charger that is toast. This knock off charger had a green light on it which does not come anymore.
How do I get a new charger for it now....

I just checked and there are a bunch being sold on eBay. The ones coming from the US are $40 plus $5 shipping. I would go with those ones. Hopefully, you will get them quicker than the ones coming from China.

Is it this one? Not too expensive and Canadian based. You still have to pay shipping.
It is , however with Shipping , it will become $30.. Will try to look in some local computer shops, they might have it for less. Another poster has the original charger but again asking an rfder to ship it to me , I am little hesitant although I can pay shipping etc. The local shops will not have original for sure

Well try the cheaper route first like used from a local shop but I ordered my charger from this place and it works well. Also be careful of which charger you try, 'close enough' might not be good enough and could kill your laptop. $30 for brand new isn't bad, $12 shipping is mostly based on the weight. Good luck.

I would get one of these, it gives you lots of options to use it on other laptops if ever needed in the future and its 90watt, instead of the regular 65watt one, so there is more headroom so it should last longer and not be strained as much.

Hmm this is interesting.. I do not need any charger for other tons of laptops though. Ratings on Amazon is great and although my laptop is not specifically mentioned by name ( Dell is mentioned but not the model number) the type of connector 7.4mm 5.0mm is mentioned so I hope this works.

Price is same as a replacement charger local shop is selling.

Lucky for you Dell adapters are a dime a dozen (not literally but very widely available and inexpensive) off eBay, refurb resellers, etc.

Side note: Thing that sucks about Dell adapters is the damn sense wire (what is wired to the centre pin) always goes bad and then the laptop won't charge or even run at full clock when that happens, despite power still being there  I have three Dell adapters and have had to replace two of the cords already (gotta crack open the adapter and get the cords from some China eBay sellers) and just recently I had one go bad for a second time. So now I got two "on the bench" waiting to be repaired, and one I just repaired and hope to get another couple years out of it. Once I repair the other two at least I'll have them to "cycle in" when the sense wire invariably fails on the one good one. Yeah yeah I could buy whole new ones, but I don't really like the idea of throwing out good stuff even if I do have the sense to take things like this to the HHW and not put in the garbage.
