I work in the wealth management/investment industry and had to Google "chartered market technician" to verify this was a genuine credential (it is, but...)

Obtaining the CMT will not benefit your career in any way. Suggest you pursue one of the widely accepted industry standards... CFA or CPA or CFP.

A search for cmt brings up country music television.
I see that cmt is supposed to be a technical analysis designation - may be worthwhile if you are already in the industry.

Have you searched for job postings asking for a cmt designation? A search on indeed does not bring up any finance jobs seeking a cmt.

Doesn’t look like this is a designation that gets your foot in the door?

There are lots of CMT out there and it is recognized by many, but the career opportunities are much smaller in the financial industry vs CFA, MBA etc. Mostly the Sell side will look at this.
