Cheap flights from YYZ to Newark NJ

I've been eyeing flights for a few months and prices haven't moved since BF. Looking for 4 tickets and they all end up being around $1800 with Porter.

Any tips to find cheaper tix for Mar 30 returning Apr 6? I'm taking a cruise and the port is in Newark, but open to flying into JFK/Laguardia if it's substantially less.

I mean the taxes and fees on this route are probably $1000 for four. You might get slightly cheaper but risk it going up more.

Get you and one more person in your party to each apply for a RBC Avion Infinite Visa card. 35,000 point welcome bonus on each card will pay for two return flights. You just have to pay the taxes and fees ( 4 x $180 on Air Canada) and 2 x $120 annual fees. Will cost you $960 total for four passengers, compared to over $2,000 for paying for the same AC flights outright.

Agree with 4 People
Driving is going to be the cheapest option
And …
It’s not a bad drive at all … as you aren’t going into Manhattan

If I was to fly to Newark from Ontario / Quebec
It would be on points / miles

In which case the idea by @Kiraly is also a good one

Nice, I'm going to look at this and see if I can make it work,

It's a bit of miles to put on the car. Going to have to see if the wife is willing to sit in a car for 8 hrs with the kids. lol.

I fly this route all the time to avoid the drive, however I've also made the drive a number of times. It's really not that bad except for winter, which by your dates hopefully isn't an issue (but you never know these days)

If 8 hours+ with kids in car is an issue. With the money you are saving driving why not stop somewhere half way and spend the night? You have a lot of savings to work with for a hotel and there are some things the kids might want to see along the way.

There is the Strong Museum of Play (arcade museum) in Rochester
https://www.museumofplay.org

Although not sure how entertained kids are by these things with iPads and all their child focused games.

Also recommend the TD First Class Travel card, that could get you around $700ish off your expenses if you can hit the $5000 spending in 6 months.

Also I've seen some sections of this drive mainly in PA where the speed limit is up to 70 or 75 mph! That certainly helps.

If you do drive, order an EZ Pass from Upstate New York Thruway Commission well before your drive.

Good advice here, but to offer another perspective, is $1,800 really that much for four people to fly return? To offer some perspective on cost, you'll probably spend something like:

- $600 on your vehicle (1500 km @ 40 cents/km, eg $200 gas depending on vehicle type plus wear/tear, I think the cost to drive an average vehicle is estimated higher but at least it is highway driving)
- $300 snacks/meals ($150 each way, even if you RFD it and pack stuff it will not be super cheap)
- $80 tolls (maybe more with the crap dollar)
- $200 to park for the week (maybe more with exchange)
- ~$80 lost airline points value
- lost opportunity (losing at least one more day from your life over flying
- safety risks of driving over flying

-------------
Min $1200

I guess the question is if flying is worth $600 to you. Of course I haven't factored in potential baggage costs, taxis to/from airports, meals in airports, etc., but just a perspective that it's not always so much cheaper, especially when you have to pay freeway costs across NY/PA and NY parking costs.

I've driven to Florida many times with our family of five and the $600 savings plus deferring the vehicle costs when I didn't have the money made sense to me at the time, but now I tend to have a different perspective.

Well let me break it down for you

Toronto to Newark = 9 hours lets say?

Now, Lets say 1 hour drive to Pearson(notsurewhere you live) then 3 hours at Pearson before your flight, then 1.5H of flying. Total if flying is 3+1.5+1 = 5.5. Yes its about 2 -3 horus less, but also saving a lot of cash!

Drove Toronto via queenston/lewiston i90-81-380-80 and paid $39 CAD in tolls with an ez pass this past summer (round trip not going into Manhattan)

Don’t forget to factor in costs to and from airports and port and home. Of course parking is a cost of driving

Been awhile …

But as I recall, some of the hotels in the Bayonne NJ area offered PARK-SLEEP-CRUISE Rates
That were a good deal

Then again ..

I’ve never found Cruise Terminal Parking anywhere to be exorbitant to begin with
Versus the RIGHT THERE convenience they’ve always offered

Haven't checked in the last month or two, but YTZ tickets have got crazy expensive lately. I used to fly a lot from there, but haven't in some time due to that.

Thanks for the suggestions! I've driven from Toronto to NYC in one shot numerous times when I was younger. I know it's a very easy drive. Spending the night is going to be another day off work, so it's not the best. It really just boils down to if the kids can stomach a 9 hr drive.

We've driven to NJ/NY, to take cruise. We get there at least a day earlier, so we can also take subway to tour around.

Our kids had no problem. It's only 8-9 hours driving, plus breaks.
