Chromebook for Asian Dramas?

Hello,

I am trying to replace an aging tablet for my parents. They have complained that the tablet screen was too small and would like to watch their asian dramas/shows on a bigger screen. After doing some research it seems a Chromebook would the best option.

My question is can a Chromebook run apps (APK's) just like android on a cellphone/android box? The apps I am trying to install are not available on Google Play, so I must use APK's to install them.

Thanks.

Thanks for the website, but it looks like the subtitles are in english. My parents need chinese subtitles as they cant read english fast enough. All the apps I have ready for the upgraded equipment is tailored for native chinese speakers and has a plethora of shows ranging from HK, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and the mainland.

I think currently not all Chromebooks can run Android apps. I don't have one so i don't really know if Google has changed this ability yet

Current Tablet (LG GPad 3) does not allow MHL dongle. My parents are not tech savy enough to use chromecast.

I bought them an android box for the apps as well as IPTV, but they dont know how to use the touchpad keyboard. I tried the give them a regluar mouse but it seems they just default back to the tablet.

Chromebooks seems like the last option at the moment.
