[CIBC] Redeem 7000 Aventura Points for $100 Pioneer, Ultramar, Chevron and Fas Gas Plus gas gift cards (50% Off)

I had Adventura points that I wasn't going to use for travel, and noticed a promo for 50% less points on Ultramar gas cards. Managed to get $325 in gas gift cards by redeeming 22,750 points.

is it better than travel redemption?

What's the deal with ultramar gift card ?

Looks like double the value (i.e. $50 GC for 3500 points).Everything else is like $25 for 3500 points

Anyone knows why ?

Yes, with this deal you're getting $0.0143 per point, ratehub says Aventura are worth up to $0.0135 when redeemed for travel.

I have just recently looked at my cibc aventura points balance. Does anyone have any advice on how to maximize the points on good deals? i have about 115k right now. I feel like i've barely made anything off of it and am considering switching cards (~$140/yr fee with my first year free). I've had it since late 2017.

I did notice a macbook pro listed in the rewards section, but it doesnt say anything about the model#/year (Apple 13" MacBook Air 256GB - Space Grey
177,400 Points)

Is it best to just go for gift cards like this one by op?

You have enough points to get 1,600$ worth of gift card (Almost 1,650$) so not sure what you mean by feeling like you have barely made anything? If you are looking for value then yes you should use it on this deal.

I normally get premium gas from costco so probably better for me to use it for travel

i think part of it is that I don't actually know the value of it. that seems pretty decent! How did you do the calculation for the gift cards?

Thanks for the info. :)

edit: 115k/7000~ 16x $100 gift cards with this current promotion= $1600ish?

Worth it? I have 120k points I was saving for God knows what.

Seems like a better rate than travel, but curious on if anyone's done the math, on travel during a sale.

My rough calculation shows that I am getting .1635 with travel vs .1428 with gift card. Close enough for me to took the plunge and got
$625 in gas cards

Notice that you will lose the saving of 3c per litre at Ultamar. Hope I still get the Journie rewards points

Best value is long haul (Ca/US) travel point value up to 2.3 cents, followed by short haul (CA/US) travel point value up to 2 cents. The rest are less than 2cents.

Long haul points values most.

Yes you lose 3c and yes you still get the JOURNIE. Go inside to scan and pay.

If you plan/often travel to those less popular short/long haul CA/US locations where you can hardly get discount on tickets (e.g. like me visit my grandma in OHIO point worth 0.1428), save it for the direct flight, the travel value points worth 0.14 to 0.23 depends on the ticket price. Best thing is Aventura does not have blackout or increase the price (they rarely discount the points even ticket on sale either).

Otherwise if you don’t plan on travel or usually on travel to those popular large cities, plus if you okay with those station’s gas quality near you place, I’d say this this deal as the value is really good.

It only allows me to add to wish list? Is there a step to purchase/redeem that I need to do? Or its the offer there and they dont have enough gift cards ?

I would say Chevron $100 gift card for 7000 points is a great deal......if you need gas.....the price per litre is only going up.
