This ISP again... I'm pasting what I said in the previous CIK thread:

I've had their cable (not FTTN) for a month. This is the worst company to have as your internet provider by a mile.. And I've had quite a few of internet providers before.
- Their modem always malfunctions, even after I've got it replaced twice.
- Their customer service is the worst for any kind of issues you may have. They literally said "there's nothing we can do, you need to stop calling" to me.
- Also be aware of the hidden fees - they states their activation is free, but they will charge you a non-refundable "installation fee" without telling you. I was charged over $100 for the 1 month I was with them. When I called them about this, they told me it's my problem not reading the fine prints. But their rep never disclosed this fee when I signed up.
- Their internet speed is the worst between 6pm-10pm. When you call them, they tell you it's because of high traffic on the TV. (apparently when there's high usage of their TV service, the internet slows down too?!?!). I basically can't stream netflix or even youtube around this time. They get really laggy.

Enough of them. Paid for the mistake and moved on for good.

I just went to look up the reviews online on this company and it basically confirms my bad experience with them.

If you run servers, I do not recommend CIKTEL. They use Carrier-grade NAT, so you do not have a public accesible IP.

I've had carrytel for a few months now, very happy with it so far. I was pretty sceptical, but it's been pretty reliable.

I use CanNet but I think their underlying ISP is CIK, because whenever I do a speedtest on speedtest.net I see that my ISP is CIK Telecom.

I was skeptical at first but their service works fine for me. So far no issues over here.

Being a communication student it is my habit to check reviews of any thing i use or wanna use before and after. When i was using BELL i obviously went and checked their reviews. And its the same everywhere, even a company like bell is trashed and filled with complaints from angry or past customers.
I am a CANNET user for quite some time now and to be honest i dont have any major problems and internet can go down for anyone and we all go online and thrash the company. No one takes time and write an appreciated review of good internet service when the internet is working but the moment your internet is down reviews and comments are everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed. Thats why you try to go with the “cleanest of the dirty shirts”. As for Bell, it is not the uptime/reliability of the connection but more the predatory/abusive customer service.

Incidentally, you go on Google Maps and you have the opposite problem: practically every damn restos have 4+ stars rating. There is more gaming in Google Maps ratings than in Las Vegas.

A carrier-grade NAT is means they share public internet IP for multiple users and sometimes you may be assigned to private CIK internal IP that isn't visible through public internet IP. Basically, if you have a server, it cannot be reached through public IP. The only work around is to pay the dryloop fee with CIKTEL.

True!!! i have seen that too, even the companies like Rogers have the same problem, but I guess their majority of the posts are about sports and other stuff which keep people distracted.

But isn't that the case with every ISP? When you check the reviews or customer service of any company, there is always that one customer who must have had some bad experience and their rating changes the whole story. Then why not go with a company with affordable prices? All I can say is from my personal experience, since I have been using this ISP for a few months now and I'm a satisfied customer!

If you are a new customer and have no other service with Videotron, the 400/50 Mbps package is $75 per month for 12 months. Then the regular price is $85 per month... unless you like to negotiate every 12 months... just saying.

I think the deal from VIF might be better since it's $5 cheaper after 12 months.... might consider that in the long run... (or maybe try calling every 12 months to keep the deal but not guaranteed...)
