Climate Action Incentive Payment 2022

Apparently this is no longer being administered through CRA tax system but is a separate credit available to most Canadians in quarterly payments.

I can't find any info on how much the payments will be, except in reference to the payment tables for each province listed on the 2020 tax credit schedule: https://www.taxtips.ca/filing/climate-a ... entive.htm

Does anyone know any more?

How to claim

This deduction is claimed on your personal income tax return. Deductions reduce the amount of income you pay tax on, so they reduce your overall income tax liability.

They haven't announced the amounts for this year, but expect it to be a bit higher than last year. CRA is still administering it and you still apply on your tax return, but it will be paid quarterly instead of as a tax refund. It's only available in AB, SK, MB & ON.

This method simplifies your claim for home office expenses (work-space-in-the-home expenses and office supply and phone expenses). If you worked more than 50% of the time from home for a period of at least four consecutive weeks in the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you can claim $2 for each day you worked from home during that period. You can then also claim any additional days you worked at home in the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The maximum amount that can be claimed is $400 per individual in 2020 and $500 per individual in 2021 and in 2022. This method can only be used for the 2020, 2021 and 2022 tax years.

To add...you don't need proof of receipts etc. You only have to prove if you're asking for more than the $500 max

Climate Action Incentive Payment 2022 will no longer be a refund on your tax return if you live in Ontario, it will be delivered in quarterly checks much like how the GST/HST Credit cheques are sent to some people

You don't actually apply on your tax return - CRA figures out if you're eligible automatically.

The thread subject is: "Climate Action Incentive Payment 2022"
You're talking about "Home office expenses for employees", which is not at all related.

This Finance Department announcement indicates that the payments will be issued quarterly for the 2021 calendar year. But there will not be an April payment, then July will be for the 1st and 2nd quarters, then in Oct it will go back to the regular quarterly amount. No announcement yet of what the payment amounts will be.

I solemnly swear, to never assume I have an inkling at which direction the market will head, and to never make any investments based on a timing strategy.

If you live outside of a census metro area, you have to include Schedule 14 with your return to get the 10% rural supplement. In any case, you have to file a return to qualify.

Why making it so complicated? It is what like under $300?

If you're single, it's between $300-$500 (depending on province) but can be over $1000 for some families with a couple of kids). And there's nothing complicated. File your tax return and they send you free money.

Too much cheating going on. Just like CERB and CRB.

What do you mean? This is really just a check box on the tax return, almost automatic, how is there cheating?

HeHeHe.
CAI to be Paid Quarterly Starting in 2022

The 2021 Federal Budget announced that starting in 2022, the CAI will be paid to taxpayers at the beginning of each quarter, instead of being included on the tax return. The 2022 CAI will not be claimed on the 2021 tax return, but the 2021 tax return must be filed in order to receive the quarterly payments, the same way that other quarterly payments and refundable tax credits depend on the tax return being filed. If you live outside a census metropolitan area, schedule 14 of the 2021 tax return must be completed. The quarterly payments will start in July 2022 with a double payment, for the first two quarters of the 2022-2023 fuel charge year (April 2022 to March 2023. See the December 3, 2021 news release.

I don't think there is checkbox or any cheating.

Climate Action Incentive Payment Amounts 2021

- claimed on the 2020 tax return
Ontario Alberta Manitoba Saskatchewan
A Single adult, or first adult in a couple1 $300 $490 $360 $500
B Second adult in a couple2, or first child of a single parent 150 245 180 250
C Each child under 183 (starting with the 2nd child for single parents) 75 123 90 125

And I doubt "but can be over $1000 for some families with a couple of kids" but people can calculate and decide.

It's not a checkbox. It depends on the tax program. Somewhere there will be a Climate Action Incentive section, where the user must indicate if the taxpayer resides in a metropolitan area or outside a metropolitan area. Met areas are Ottawa, Kingston, Belleville, Peterborough, Oshawa, Toronto, Hamilton, St. Catharines-Niagara, Kitchener-Cambridge-Waterloo, Brantford, Guelph, London, Windsor, Barrie, Sudbury, or Thunder Bay. If the taxpayer lives outside those cities' metropolitan areas the incentive beneft is 10% higher.

The payment is based on the family situation: single, couple and any dependents.

It's easy. Select where you live and the payments show up in your account or on a cheque starting in July 2022.
