CNBC TV Canada only has reruns today

I usually have the CNBC channel on every day, but today (Monday July 26), which is not a stock market holiday, all they have is reruns of programs like American Greed.

I am hoping they just made some technical error and they can switch us back to their regular live programming, like Fast Money etc.

Apparently some of their non-USA CNBC feeds have had their programming radically changed for the duration of the Olympics which will last about 2 weeks. Something related to rights issues with NBC.

The channel logo (bottom right of TV screen) shows CNBC World so maybe they accidentally switched the Canada feed to CNBC World.

Alternately maybe it's my TV service supplier (Telus), maybe they made a mistake and switched us over from the regular CNBC feed to CNBC World.

Lol I thought I was going nuts, where's Kelly??? ;)

I am on Shaw Direct and I think we are getting the CNBC World feed for some reason. Probably had to do with Olympic rights coverage (can't show any highlights or else CBCRobel gets angry). Most annoying thing is they already simsub a Canadian ad during the breaks so they could just blank them. I'm afraid we will be stuck with this while the clown show goes on.

Time to brush up on those Australian stocks and pull an all nighter!

Same for me as well. If this lasts for the duration of the Olympics I think I will go insane.

I know I don't really listen or follow or even like the content on CNBC but it has been a home TV staple for as long as I remember, kind of like a bad habit like smoking that is hard to get rid of. For today I have to watch bloomberg TV on the computer...

Same thing here I have Bell. Was able to listen live to the CNBC Halftime Show and Closing Bell on the CNBC mobile app with a US VPN. Now at 5:00 pm the mobile app is playing the same CNBC World junk that the TV has on. CNBC listen live had the same shows they always have on so they weren't televising the Olympics today on CNBC.

I noticed late last week their news program “The News With Shepard Smith” was gone and something else was substituted. Probably that program is where they will show some Olympics clips. Why not just continue substituting out that program, rather than removing all their normal stock market news programs for the next 2 weeks?

Bad situation especially considering this is earnings season and lots of quarterly reports are coming out for companies many of us are invested in.

Just got this email from CNBC:

“Due to circumstances associated with NBC’s extensive coverage of the Tokyo Olympics, CNBC World content will be broadcast to our viewers in Canada during the duration of the Olympic games. This means that CNBC U.S. stream will not be available to view in Canada until regular schedule of live programs resume Monday, August 9th. “

That sounds like the dumbest reason they can find... After all, what does CNBC's coverage have to do with the Olympic coverage? If they are concerned that CNBC USA might mention some Olympic news which will interfere with CBC's license then maybe they should turn off NBC as well.

That does seem dumb as CNN shows Olympics clips as does just about all the US stations and they aren't all blacked out. I wonder if this is CNBC's decision or is it some arcane CRTC regulation that puts the kibosh on CNBC for some reason. Thanks for the updates previous posters.

Is Jim Cramer covering the women's gymnastics segment? Is Santelli covering the beach volleyball event? I think this is absurd.

Cramer is going to wear tights and do gymnastics. I can't think of a dumber move by NBC.

All the usual evening shows are back tho like Squawk Box Asia and Squawk Box Europe.

But the day stuff will be blocked until the end of the Olympics... CNBC too lazy to press a switch.

If you have IPTV you can watch it.

Being forced to watch an illegal feed for a channel I legitimately pay for. This is ridiculous.

CNBC's Olympic coverage doesn't even start until 8 PM ET, so there is zero reason they have to do this.
They have brief Olympic news updates during the day, but nothing more than any other channel, no video clips. So no idea how they would be violating Olympic rights if they broadcast the pre-8 pm programs to Canada during this time.

Since CBC is taxpayer funded, you are paying for that too. Effectively, we are paying for channels but not getting the services in return.

During US market hours, Japan is asleep, so there is no live Olympic coverage to speak of. So I find this blackout arrangement ridiculous.

Was able to get a credit of around $8 from Bell Fibe TV after I complained.

Might be worthwhile if you want a little bit of money back.

If you have Spotify it has most of the programs as podcasts. The podcasts appear a few hours after the program finishes.

Are you kidding? CNBC is live business and stock market news. Why the F would anyone want to watch it hours later?

US Squawk is showing on CNBC again this morning! (Although program guide says something different).

Hopefully this isn't a mistake and CNBC figured out how to just black out the Olympic coverage to their Canadian feed. (I did see a short 45 second block where the screen was replaced with a blue background and text saying "Olympic programming not available in your area due to broadcasting rights" or something to that effect).

I was surprised it was on as well. The Olympic connection really made no sense considering MSNBC is still on.
