confused by the safety requirement for gas range

So we bought a gas range from costco and I am really confused by the clearance requirement. I have marked the parts that confused me with red arrow.
What are the 6inch and 4inch referring to? Does it mean the upper cabinets right besides the range has to be 6 inches away from it (i.e. there must be a gap between the upper cabinet right above the range and the one besides it??)

The last bolded sentence also confused me: For installation in Canada, a free-standing range is not to be installed closer than 4.7 inch (12cm) from any adjacent surface. Does it mean the coutertop surface has to be 4.7 inch away from the stove? This sounds crazy as I never saw anyone has a gap between countertop and the stove.

Thanks!

maybe the 4inch and 6inch are referring to how far the 18 inch vertical clearance has to be maintained for each side?

Hmm that is very strange indeed. 4" on one side but 6 on the other? Here's what I would do.
Remove the old stove and slide the new one in. Done.
edit: Ah I get it now. Its saying if there is a wall on either side you need that clearance in inches

If you are placing the stove with a wall immediately on the left side the stove has to be 4" away from the wall. If the wall will be on the right side of the stove it has to be 6" away. This is probably because the oven may dissipate heat more towards the right side of the stove.

It clearance for the burners on the cooktop. You can't put any objects closer than 4" or 6" on the countertop itself right next to the stove so like a microwave oven or bread box, spice rack, etc

It clearly says zero clearance required below the cooktop

Nah, probably because the burners are bigger diameter/more BTU on one side (the "power burner") and 2" additional clearance is needed for that side with the larger heat source.

Thanks everyone. The right burner has more BTU than left so I think you guys are right that it's talking about the clearance required for any object being close to the burner.
Thanks again!
