connector for 144hz (and above) monitors

so, I think I have read that in order to get 144hz (and above) on a monitor,

you have to connect with a Display Port connection.

i only have HDMI on my laptop. do they sell HDMI -to- DP adaptors?

and if they do, will that even work? or does DP have connectors that can't be adapted from HDMI?

could someone let me know about this.

Most monitors will only handle 144Hz via DisplayPort. As for whether an adapter will work, you'll have to see if your laptop supports HDMI 2.0. If not, the highest you could get is 120Hz if the monitor supported that over HDMI. If so, you could use an adapter that specifically mentions HDMI 2.0 to DisplayPort.

From my experience, you can go from DisplayPort to HDMI pretty easily , but you can't go from HDMI to DisplayPort unless you use an active adapter in between. I imagine the active adapter will be a major factor in determining what refresh rate is supported on the DisplayPort end. My guess is that it won't work very well at all.
