Cost of a new concrete footing for basement

We're in the Greater Toronto area. We're having a post replaced in our basement, and we're told it requires a new footing. We have been given a price by our contractor for a new 48 x 48 x 16 reinforced concrete footing of just under $3,000 for removal/disposal of the old footing and installation of the new one.

Is this a reasonable estimate?

Thanks!

Is there a engineer involved? What’s wrong with current footing?

There is an engineer involved, apparently. The post is being replaced to support a larger beam, and the existing footing is not sufficient.

I believe they will have access to an engineer’s report that you as a client should be able to request. If engineer is involved, the job price seems cheap. I have been quoted about $3000 just for drawings alone.

Actually, I may be wrong about the engineer. It's possible they were given the size/reinforcement requirements by the inspector.
